Also with Adjectives signifying emptiness. This use explains(5) "Void of sense." "Clear of debt." "She was delivered of a child." 367 "Of," from meaning " motion from," comes to mean (6) "out of," (7) "belonging to," (8) "resulting from ": — (6) "This box is made of wood." "He comes of good parentage." " Evil must come of evil." (7) " The light of the sun," i.e. " the light off or from the sun." (8) "The canal is full of water," i.e. "as the result of." "He did it of malice aforethought." "She died of a fever." "It smells of musk." "Of his own accord." " Of course," i.e., "as the result of the ordinary course of things." Compare Bacon's - (8a) " If Time, of course (i.e as the result of its ordinaly course) alter things to the worse."
