(3) "After breakfast the old man would (i.e. liked to) generally take a walk." 180 Caution.- Notice that Indicative Tenses of A may," " can," " shall," " will," when depending on a Principal Verb in the Present, are Present; but when depending on a Past, are Past: - (1) "I say that I may, can, shall, will, help you." (2) "I said that I might, could, should, would, help you." 181 Rule. - The Auxiliary Verbs "can," "could," " may," "might," 5c. (when not following "if" or any other Conjunction expressing Condition) are used Indicatively, provided they can be altered into the Indicatives of other Verbs. How to Parse the Subjunctive. 182 1. Where the Mood expresses Purpose, parse the Verb as " Subjunctive of Purpose." 2.
