100 INDIRECT AND ADVERBIAL [Par. x44. In some cases the Noun implied from the preceding sentence would, if expressed, be Objective. For example, the sentences might have run(1) "He was guilty of disobedience-afiault," &c. (2) "You kept silence -a confession," &c. But in other cases the implied Noun might be Subjective, e.g.:"If he were elected a Member of Parliament-not a very probable event," i.e. "if his election were to happen," &c. EXERCISE XXIV.
