A large increase in the import of unmanufactured goods,
especially of foodstuffs and fertilizers, was an inevitable result
of the limited area of our country and its teeming population.
The rapid increase in the import of raw materials was a matter of congratulation, because it was an unmistakable sign of
our industrial growth. In the export trade there were signs
that the export of un~manufactured goods somewhat declined,
which was quite natural to the industrial conditions of Japan.
