than a mere child but not yet marriageable.
Budak-budak prgsmpuwan: girls. Pngkau budak-budak: you are only a boy. Aku bukan
budak-budak makanpisang: I am not a bananaeating boy; I am not to be taken in; Prov.
Budak raja: (Pahang) the retinue of a raja.
Kebudak-budakan: sexual immaturity; sexual
ignorance; - e. g. of an immature boy,

takes no pleasure in her husband's caresses,

budu. Small fish pickled in brine with their
scales and entrails. Kalau ku buka tempayan

of unsavoury revelations); Prov.

Yu b.: a species of shark which allows itself
to be caught very easily.

budi. I. [Skr. buddhi.] Wisdom; understanding; disposition; turn of mind; discretion. 'Akal b. or b. bichara: id. Hilang b.: the
loss of discretion; the throwing of prudence
to the winds under the influence of overmastering passion. Hutang nmas buleh di-bayar, hutang
budi di-bawa mati: a debt of money may be
paid, a debt of kindness endures till death;
Prov. Mati ikan kerana urnpan, mati sehaya
kerana budi: fish perish through bait; I
perish through your graciousness.
Korang b.: want of discretion.
Berbudi: discreet; prudent.

bora or bura. Forcibly spitting out, ejecting, or throwing. Tersilap sadikit terkena
bura: make a slight mistake and you will be
pilloried for it; Bint. Tim., I6 Jan., I895.
Sudah bura: (Singapore) he has been kicked
out; he has absconded. Membura: to bombard, to pelt.

Ular naga bora: (Kedah) a snake believed to
poison by spitting out its venom on its assailants; = (Riau, Johor) ular ntura. This
snake may be naia sputatrix, but was identified
by Malays in my presence as lachesis
purpureomaculatus.

Dj burit. The posterior of men and animals; the
stern; the fundament. Tidak ketahuwan kepala
dan burit: he could not make out head from
tail; he could not tell the top from the
bottom; Sh. Panj. Sg.
Buritan: the stern of a ship. Bargilir kaburita: to wear ship; J. S. A. S., XI., 4I.
Me'mburit: to commit an unnatural offence.

III. Giving out, letting go, playing out
rope; (by metaphor) profuse, prodigal, extravagant. Orang yang boros tiyada mlmileh, yang
mana terlintas semnuwa di-beli: a prodigal knows
no discrimination; he buys everything he
comes across; (from a Pantun.) Cf. borong.

renting a boat or any other property for any
length of time.
burong. The generic name for birds; cf.

Burong is used for the penis in the Naning
districts of Malacca and in the Negri
Sembilan, and its use in those states should
be abandoned and unggas employed.
