Babyloniaca, études de philologie assyro-babylonienne.

STUDIES IN CAPPAI)OCIAN TABLETS G. I. DRIVER, OXFORD The present article contains the transcription and literal translation of 85 (( Cappadocian, texts, taken from those published in Contenau's Tablettes Cappadociennes (Louvre; 4920) cited as ( L.,, and il Smith's Cuneiform Texts from Cappadocian Tablets (British Museum; 1921) cited as B( BI, (- C. T. C. T., I), B II h) (- C. T. C. T., II) and (( B13 11 ( C. T. C. T., 1II) respectively. So little is known at present about ( Cappadocian ) that no apology will be needed for the baldness of the translation. Further, the prevailing uncertainty about the forms current in this dialect has led me to make no endeavour to convert ideograms into their (( Cappadocian ) equivalent, at least in the transcription; but in the translation I have given their conventional Accadian forms in the case of proper names. For the sake of convenience I have used the abbreviation D. for DINGIR when it is used as a determinative before the names of gods. Finally, it must be understood that I claim no sort of finality for my interpretation of any text; I only hope that what I have here done may provoke discussions that may eventually lead to the solution of the various problems to which they give rise.
