78 78 ~~~~~ST. LANGDON d. Compounds with a' (" hand "). 27. < z<' 4 Aaga" announce an oracle". Gud. Cyl. A XV 11 d-niin-zaq-ga.da i-ma-da-4g " anl oracle was announced by Ninzagga. This is not a verbal compound but shows how such compounds originally arose. The original sense make an oracle" never passed into a real verb capable of taking an external object. 28. ~j4r arr~ i-il "exalt " (original sense "lift the horn " BR. 6553). Gud. Cyl. A XXII 22-23 balra-gir-naun-na ki-di-kad-ba i'z-a sirbar-la-(ki) gad-gal-di'm A-ba-il-il the shrine gir-n an, place of judgement, the caretaker of Sirpurla like a great ox elevated (its) horn ",ie. "glorified it". Compound takes the oblique case bfira; notice also the two nouns in apposition both in oblique case. In cases like this where the scribe does not reproduce the elements in the prefixes it is difficult to assign ba to its proper antecedent. It is most likely the dative with- subject and object omitted. The full form would be ma-ba-ni-il-il. e. Compounds with 4'ag ( heart " 29. M ~'-rr ~ <f.-~TOT gaq-kas-44" counsel, conceive an idea " Gud. Cyl. A XXII 12-13 d-en-ki-da e-an-kir-ra-ka A'ag-mu-ti-ntib-kai~-S'a " by the aid of Ea he conceived the idea of the temple A nkirra ". ka shows that ankirra is construct; ni-ib indicates a double object, hence e' must be direct case. We have already noted that genitives depending upon direct objects are~ in the oblique case. ti (~=-ta) repeats dia. f. Compounds with liq (g~i) (" neck") 30. 42A4 q rtg-sig-sig "~ enrich "? Gud.
