Babyloniaca, études de philologie assyro-babylonienne.

76 ST. LANGDON accusative 1. These few eases are not exhaustive but they illustrate all the usages of this compound, which, originally construed wvith the preposition,46, developed into the dative construction. For further examples, cf. Gud. Cyl. A I 3; XXIII 17; St. C II 13; Cyl. B II 3; St. B IX 18. Gud. Cyl. A XXYIJ 3-ii e'-sa-gab-a-hi uzg-husi-AIn kalamr-ma ibri-mnni-ib —gal the temple Sagab, like a ferocious leopard, observed the country". mi reproduces e', and tit the noun in apposition Sagapb. ib is for the direct object igi; kalami-ma dative object. 2 0. IV H 26, 13 b ki-ela 9iu nuz-lah-ha igi-im-m-ia-an —sumzz'' has he seen a maiden who has not washed her hands?' Not only the construction demands the reading ki-ela, but the participle in agreement nui-lah-ha. 21. Observe the da repeating the ablative of manner kis'agrga. Gud. Cyl. A 1 18 gl'i-de-a en dlingr-ur gl-Mu-idPm Gudea turned his gaze towards Ningirsu ". Verb construed with r-a as igi-bar (no 18) was construed with M. The scribe might have repeated the ra in mu-ra-ni but the classical language rarely does this. These two examples show the development from the construction with a preposition to the second class. No 1 8 developed only into the first class. We shall add here an interesting example of the second class: IV R 351 no 6 11 1-2 iti (BR. 9426) -M4g-ga-ni igri-ma-ni-in-dti-a= "(when the god) beheld his favorable sign ". W~e have here a i.
