PREFACE The present volume carries the Calendar to the forty-fourth year of Henry III. The object and character of the Calendar are explained in the preface to the first volume. The text was originally prepared by the late Mr. J. B. W. Chapman, an Assistant Keeper of the Public Records. The table of corrigenda and the indexes are the work of Mrs. S. B.
