526 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1260. Membrane 3-cont. To the same. Contrabreve to let Roger le Convers (Converso), king's serjeant have 40s. out of the same issues to buy himself a rouncey of the king's gift. To Richard de Freitmantell, keeper of the manors of Cokham, Braye, and Kenyton. Contrabreve to amend where absolutely necessary the king's hall of Kenyton and the paintings in his chapel there, the cost to be credited by view. Aug. 26. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to pay out of the Winchester. farm of their town for a tun of prisage-wine which the king, at the request of brother Thomas Mustard, monk of Schireburn, ordered the keepers of his wines at Suthampton to deliver to the prior and monks of Schireburn of his gift to celebrate divine service in their house. By K. Mandate to the said keepers accordingly. Aug. 30. Allocate to the executors of Walter, formerly bishop of Durham, Winchester in his recent fine of 1,000 marks, 300 marks paid in the wardrobe for the expenses of the household. Note that the order for their letters patent, and also for this letter, was given by the king in the presence of Thomas Gredle, justice of the forest. See Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1258-1266, p. 91. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to renew the painting of the hall of Winchester castle and of the queen's hall and table, and to amend where necessary the glass windows of the king's chapel by his chamber, the gutters of his chaplains' chamber, a column in the gallery (oriollo) towards the queen's chapel, and the buildings of the castle; the cost to be credited by view and testimony of lawful men. To Master John Mansell, keeper of the bishopric of Durham. Contrabreve to let Imbert de Munferaunt the king's knight, whom he is sending on his errand to those parts, have 5 marks for his expenses out of the issues of the bishopric. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to let Simon, the king's chaplain dwelling in the castle there, have 40s. out of the farm of their town to buy a missal of the Sarum use by their view and testimony for the king's chapel of St. Nicholas in the castle. Sept. 2. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to let Fortenerius de Clarendon. Luk', lying sick at London, have 40s. of the king's gift for his expenses out of the issues of their bailiwick; and if he should die, to let his executors have it for his funeral.
