516 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1260. Membrane 5-cont. Liberate to Aubrey de Fiscampis and Peter de Winton, clerks of the wardrobe, 1101. for the expenses of the household. July 13. Allocate to Henry de Pembrok, formerly sheriff of Gloucester, Westminster. 861. 18s. ld. spent in the 41st year in the carriage of 10 tuns of wine from Bristol to Gloucester, 40 tuns from Bristol to Worcester, and 150 tuns from Bristol to Chester, in hooping and preparing (attilio) the tuns, in buying 20 empty tuns to hold flour, in carriage of 200 quarters of wheat and 300 quarters of oats from divers places in the county to Bristol, in making (reparacione) 100 quarters of flour out of the said wheat, in carriage of the said flour, 100 quarters of wheat, [and 300 quarters of oats]* from Bristol to Chester, and in the expenses of serjeants guarding the wine, corn, and flour by both land and water, as witnessed by Robert Walerand, then the king's steward. July 14. Liberate to Augustine de Notingham, bishop of Laodicea Westminster. (see p. 510), 10 marks in part payment of the 60 marks granted to him yearly during pleasure for his maintenance. By K. To the sheriffs of Somerset and Dorset. Contrabreve to let John de Gorges have for his maintenance 61. at Easter and 61. at Michaelmas yearly from the time when the sheriff received the keeping of the counties for so long as he is sheriff, as he used to do in the times of former sheriffs. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to whitewash the queen's chamber in the castle of Norhampton, to roof the king's hall, and to repair his other buildings in the castle where absolutely necessary, the cost to be credited by view and testimony of lawful men. Liberate to Adam de Basing 41. 12s. 9d. for the embroidery and repair of two choir-copes which the king ordered to be made of some red samite of his against the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul last past, and which he offered at the feretory of St. Edward; and 4s. 6d. for silken cloth to repair the same. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to let Richard de Freitmantell and other keepers of the king's works at Windlesores have 201. without delay out of the issues of the county to carry out certain works which the king has enjoined upon them. By K. at the queen's request. Mandate to the said Richard and the keepers to repair the bridge at the foot of the great tower of the castle of Windesores and the building thereon, to make a penthouse in the upper bailey * Interlined.
