478 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1259. Membrane 2-cont. Sept. 26. To the bailiffs of Winchester. Contrabreve to roof and repair Winchester. where absolutely necessary the king's buildings at Winchester castle out of the farm of their town. To Nicholas de Haudlou, keeper of the bishopric of Winchester. (See duplicate entry, p. 480.) Sept. 29. To the bailiffs of Portesmue. Contrabreve to let James le Winchester. Sauvage, sheriff of Hants, have 201. out of the farm of the town to buy lead to roof the king's tower at Porrecestr'. To Nicholas de Haudlou, keeper of the bishopric of Winchester. Contrabreve to let Roger Aliz have a robe out of the issues of the bishopric, as he used to have in the time of Aymer the king's brother, formerly [bishop].* Oct. 1. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to buy out of the issues Winchester. f the county, by view of the constable and chaplains of Winchester castle, a good and complete breviary well supplied with music (plenarium portehors bene notatum) for the chapel of St. Thomas in the castle. Oct. 3. To the sheriff of Surrey. Contrabreve to let Robert, the chaplain Guildford. ministering in the chapel of St. Stephen at Guldeford, have his wages out of the issues of the county as one of the chaplains of that [place].* Oct. 8. Liberate to Imbert Pogeys, appointed steward of the household Westminster. by counsel of the nobles who are of the king's council, 20 [marks] * for this Michaelmas term of the 40 marks granted to him yearly to maintain himself in the king's service. By Hugh le Bigod. Liberate daily to Roger de Stanleye and Ph[ilip t de S]ecch[evi ]ll, king's messengers, 3id. daily granted to them for their lives................. * as [received] at the Exchequer by Alice late the wife of Ralph Page. They have letters patent therefor. By Hugh le Bigod, justiciar. Oct. 11. Liberate to the keepers of the works of the church of WestWestminster. minster 1001.* (100 marks?) to carry out those works.
