472 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1259. Membrane 3-cont. Aug. 8. At Windesores on the Wednesday after St. Peter's Chains, in Windsor. the presence of P. de Sabaudia, H. le Bigod, justiciar, and others of the king's council, it was ordered that a writ of liberate be made for Peregrine de Sancto Severino and Matthew of the same town (described in the margin as his partner) for the arrears due to them of 140 marks of the one part and 40 marks of the other of the king's gift. As the amount of the arrears was not known, the making of the writ was postponed till Michaelmas, that inquiry might be made meanwhile by the rolls of Chancery and the writ might then be made. The 11 marks given to the king by the burgesses of Gant to have liberty were first assigned to Peregrine and Matthew in part payment hereof, but afterwards given to them in recompense of their losses and expenses sustained by lack of payment. To the sheriff of Salop and Stafford. Contrabreve to let Llewelyn son of Meredith have 40 marks out of the issues of his counties, as he being disinherited on the king's account, the king has granted him that sum by the counsel of the nobles of his council to maintain him, his wife and [children] * for a year from St. Peter's Chains. To William de Glouc', keeper of the exchange. Contrabreve to make the king's seals out of the issues of the exchange in the fashion enjoined on him and Edward de Westm', king's clerk. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to receive 15 tuns of wine which the king's chamberlains of London will deliver, and carry them to Windesores to place in the king's cellar there. Aug. 3. To the same. Contrabreve to let the constable of the Tower Westminster. have out of their farm 61. 3s. 8d. spent in repairs of the buildings there, and money to repair the defects of those buildings as may be necessary by view of the viewers of the works there. Aug. 7. To Henry de Farlegh, keeper of the manors of Cokham and Windsor. Braye. Contrabreve to let Henry, fitter (atilliatori) of the king's crossbows at Windesores, and Herlewin the Norman and three others, king's serjeants there, have their wages from Easter in this year to Michaelmas following (as on p. 452). MEMBRANE 2. Aug. 7. To the sheriff of Gloucester. Contrabreve, as he loves himself Windsor. and all his possessions, to repair without delay where necessary the king's weir and half-weir which are in the keeping of Matthew * Surface damaged.
