446 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1259. Membrane 7-cont. Jan. 8. Liberate to Hugh le Bigod 1,000 marks provided for him yearly Westminster. at the Exchequer by the magnates of the king's council to [maintain] * himself in the office of justiciar. Liberate to John de Gisorciis 40 marks for 8 tuns of wine taken from him lately before Christmas for the queen by William the queen's butler, and 31 marks 6s. for 9 fothers of lead taken from him by Master Alexander the king's carpenter to roof the queen's new chamber in the upper bailey of Windsor castle. Jan. 8. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to let the anchoress of Westminster. Dover castle have 1 —d. daily for her maintenance out of the issues of the county as in the times of other sheriffs, from the time when, he received the keeping of the county so long as he is sheriff. A To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to repair and amend the breach of the park of Freitmantel, which is in absolute need thereof, the cost to be credited by view. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to carry to Windsor without delay 20 tuns of wine which Peter de Gisorciis the king's chamberlain of London is ordered to deliver, to place in the king's cellars there. Jan. 8. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to repair the defects of Westminster. Dover castle without delay where absolutely necessary, including unroofed buildings, the cost to be credited by view. To the sheriff of Surrey. Like order for Guldeford, including buildings unroofed by the wind. Jan. 10. Liberate to Adam de Greyvill 20 marks for Easter term and Westminster. 20 marks for Michaelmas term in the 42nd year of the 40 marks yearly provided for his maintenance so long as he sits at the Exchequer of the Jews. By H. le Bigot, justiciar. To the sheriff of Salop and Stafford. Contrabreve to repair where absolutely necessary the buildings of the castle of Bruges unroofed by the wind, and the walls and other defects of the buildings, the cost to be credited by view. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to repair [where necessary] the buildings of Winchester castle unroofed by the wind, and other defects of the castle. Jan. 10. To the sheriff of Gloucester. Contrabreve to let Agnes late the Westminster. wife of Wybert de Rue have 16s. and a tun of wine out of the issues * The right-hand edge of this membrane is injured.
