438 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1258. Membrane -cont. To the bailiffs of Norhampton. Contrabreve to roof and repair the turrets of the castle of Norhampton where absolutely necessary, and to prop up the walls so that they will stand beyond the coming winter, while the time for working lasts, and to roof and repair the buildings of the castle where absolutely necessary, without delay, out of the arrears of their farm or out of the farm itself, by the view and counsel of Ralph Basset, constable of the castle. Liberate to John de Lamfare, king's clerk, 101. for Michaelmas term in the 42nd year of the 201. granted to him yearly for his maintenance. Liberate to Nicholas de Liuns and Walter Pedeargent, merchants of Doway, 561. 16s. 8d. for cloth taken from them at the fair of St. Edmund, and 2261. 13s. 4d. for cloth taken from them in that of St. Ives, by Richard de Ewell and Hugh de Turri, buyers for the wardrobe, in the 42nd year. Nov. 6. Liberate to Roger de Messenden, king's clerk, 101. for Michaelmas Westminster term in the 42nd year of the 201. which he receives at the Exchequer for his maintenance. Allocate to Adam de Aston and Walter de Wassingle, formerly keepers of the bishopric of Lincoln, in the issues thereof, 100s. delivered in the wardrobe at Ecles to Aubrey de Fiscampo and Peter Winton, clerks thereof, on the Wednesday after the Nativity of St. Mary in the 42nd year, and 1471. 15s. 8d. delivered in like manner at Westminster on St. Leonard's day in this year. Liberate to two chaplains ministering at the Tower of London, each of whom receives 50s. yearly, their wages from Michaelmas in the 42nd year till Easter following. Liberate to William de Beubek 81. for 3 tuns of wine, to Tassianus de Vasconia 53s. 4d. for 1 tun, to Claremunda de Suthampton 100s. for 2 tuns, to Richard le Clerc of Suhampton 53s. 4d. for 1 tun, to Roger le Flemmeng 100s. for 2 tuns, to Hende le Taverner of Oxford 101. 10s. for 3 tuns, to Alice la Botiller of Hinton 161. 13s. 4d. for 5 tuns, to Roger de Fridaistrete of London 668. 8d. for 1 tun, to John Fortyn of Suthampton 46s. 8d. for 1 tun, to Adam Feteplace of Oxford 81. 10s. for 3 tuns, and to Gilbert Cotel 81. 10s. for 3 tuns, all taken last year by John de Swineford, taker of the king's wines. Liberate to William de Gardinis 10 marks, being 5 marks for Easter term in the 41st year and 5 marks for Easter term following of his yearly fee of 5 marks.
