Liberate to William le Pik[ard, maker] of the king's quarrels Westminster. at the Tower of London, from Christmas in the 42nd year every...... d. for his wages so long as he is employed in that office, of the 7jd. which Hugh le Picard the said William's father used to receive daily therein. To [the bailiffs] of Portesmue. Contrabreve to spend up to 50s. out of the farm of their town in amending the king's houses at Portesmue. To [the sheriff] of Dorset. Contrabreve to repair the defects of the castle of Syreburn where absolutely necessary, the cost to be credited by view and testimony of lawful men. Feb.... Allocate to John de Sumercote, formerly keeper of the exchange, Westminster. in the issues thereof, in silver for dishes and sauceboats for the king's daughter and the queen, [and for work thereon].* Allocate to the same, formerly keeper of the fair of St. Ives, in the issues thereof, 61. spent in the expenses of Matthew Hambaud, proconsul of the Romans, when last in those parts. Feb. 5. Allocate to Walter de Rudham and Marinus de Chanflur, Westminster. formerly keepers of the bishopric of Carlisle, in the issues thereof, 20 marks paid [in the wardrobe] to Peter de Rivallis, then keeper, on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday in the 42nd year (sic). To the sheriff of Norfolk. Contrabreve to let Hugh the king's falconer (Hugh le Fauconer in margin) have 40s. of the king's gift for his expenses for his illness in London. Liberate to William de Valencia....................... 100 marks of old [money] which he lent the king to the use of the pope........................... Allocate to Guy Gob[au]t, son [and heir?] of John Gobaut, [formerly] constable of the castle of the Peak, in the issues of that bailiwick, 27s. 8d. spent in carriage of the king's venison from the Peak to London [in the] 22[nd year?] unless already allowed to the said John or Guy. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to cause six of the king's falcons in the keeping of Ralph de Erlham to be mewed at Geytenton etc. (as on p. 270). * Interlined.
