402 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1257. Membrane l-cont. To the sheriff of Lancaster. Contrabreve to buy 120 fat oxen without delay out of the issues of his bailiwick and salt and prepare (atorn') them well and keep them till further orders. The like to the sheriff of Northumberland for 200 oxen. The like to Richard de Shireburn, escheator beyond Trent, for 100 fat oxen and 200 carcasses of bacon. To the sheriff of Devon. Contrabreve to let the daughter of Joan de Gorges, who used to dwell in the queen's [chamber?] at Windesores, 100s. yearly at Michaelmas out of the issues of the county so long as he is sheriff, of the king's gift for her maintenance. Cancelled quia redditum fuit breve et aliter in rotulo anni xlij. Oct. 8. Liberate to Cecilia the king's laundress yearly during her life Windsor, the l1d. daily which Maud Pi[lche] the king's laundress used to receive of the king's gift, in the same manner as Maud. See Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, p. 581. Oct. 21. Liberate to Richard de Middelton, king's clerk, 5 marks for Westminster. this Michaelmas term of the yearly fee of 10 marks which he used to receive when attending to the keeping of the king's writs and rolls in the Bench. To the sheriff of Berks. Contrabreve to let Oliver de Stanford, who was with the king in his army in Wales, have 15 marks promised to him for loss of horses there. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to carry 20 tuns of wine to Westminster and 10 to Windesores out of 30 which the king caused to be brought to London from the parts of Boston, and which Robert le Treur his butler will [deliver] * at London, and to place them safely in the king's cellars there. To the sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk. Contrabreve, on his loyalty and as he loves himself and all his possessions, to go with speed in person to Gernem' and Norwich, and buy there [by view] * and testimony of good and lawful men 40 lasts of good herring out of the farm of the counties or some other source, and carry it by water to Westminster for delivery to the keepers of the larder, not failing hereof as he cares for his own safety. Oct. 29. To Robert Waleraund. Contrabreve, seeing that the king lately Westminster. commanded Henry de Pembrok, sheriff of Gloucester, to let Robert have 100 marks out of the issues of the county or some other source to pay for wine, corn, and [other] * victuals which * The right edge of the membrane has boon rubbed.
