41 HENRY III. 365 1257. Membrane 8 —cnt. of 40 marks was increased to maintain himself in the office of justice. Liberate to [our beloved and faithful] * Robert de Ferrariis, after payments as above, 501. for this Easter term of the 1001. which he receives yearly at the Exchequer by way of marriage (see Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, p. 458). To Walter le Clerk, bailiff of Wynchelesfe and La Rye. Contrabreve to let Robert de Cadamo have 100s. yearly at Easter out of the farms of those towns, as granted to him for praiseworthy service, from the vigil of this Easter so long as Walter is bailiff. To the sheriff of York. Contrabreve to let Alan le Usser have 251. for this Easter term out of the issues of the county of the yearly fee of 501. which he receives at the Exchequer, after payment of the money due to Simon de Monteforti, earl of Leicester, as Roger de Turk[elby] will tell. To Robert Walraund, bailiff of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to let the king's knight William de Hastencot have 5 marks of the king's gift without delay out of the farm of St. Briavels. April 17. Liberate to Hathias (rectius Matthias?) de Mara, after payments Merton. as above, 10 marks for this Easter term of his yearly fee of 20 marks. Allocate to William de Weston, William de Dene, and Philip de Aure (as on p. 359), 531. 6s. 8d. delivered in the wardrobe to Artald etc. on the morrow of the Close of Easter. April 17. Allocate to Hugh de Manneby, sheriff of Northampton, in the Merton. issues of the county, 60s. 4d. spent in purchase of 3 boars, 1000 eggs, and 400 fowls for the king against the feast of St. Edward, being the vigil of the Epiphany last, as testified by Peter de Winton, clerk of the wardrobe. April 19. Allocate to the bailiffs of Gloucester, in the farm of the town, Merton. 251. lOs. spent in purchase of lampreys and shad and in carriage (portagio) thereof by instalments last Lent, being 191. for 191 lampreys and 6 shad sent to the king as testified by William de Grey his steward, and 61. 10s. for 55 lampreys and 2 shad sent to the queen as testified by Matthew Besile her steward. * Cancelled by dots underneath.
