348 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 11 —cont. Dec. 30. Liberate to Emeric de Plessetis 20 marks, and to Peter de Rupe Westminster. 151., of their yearly fees of those amounts, for Michaelmas term in the 40th year. Liberate to Henry de Castello, brother of the king of Castile, 100 marks of the king's gift for his expenses. Liberate to Drew de Barentyn 50 marks for his expenses on the king's errand beyond seas. 1257. Jan. 3. Allocate to Stephen de Aston, sheriff of Somerset and Dorset, in Merton. the issues of those counties, 8s. 2d. spent in carrying the king's venison from Shireburn to Westminster against this Christmas. Witness Robert Waleram the king's steward. Allocate to William de Swineford, sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk, in the issues of those counties, 401. delivered to the king's brother William de Valancia on the arrears of his fee for Michaelmas term in the 40th year. To the sheriff of Salop. Contrabreve to let Ouhel son of Blethyn have 20 marks of the king's gift without delay out of the issues of the county for his maintenance. To the sheriff of Norfolk. Contrabreve to let the wife of Drew de Barentyn have a tun of wine of the king's gift. To the sheriff of Notingham. Contrabreve to repair the defects of the castle of Notingham where absolutely necessary, the cost to be credited by view. To the bailiffs of Wynlesoures. Contrabreve to repair the bridge of the castle of Wyndlesoures where absolutely necessary without delay, the cost to be credited by view. To the sheriff of Norfolk. Contrabreve to repair the palisade and buildings of Norwich castle where necessary, the cost to be credited by view. K Allocate to the bailiffs and burgesses of Scardebur', in the farm of their town for Michaelmas term in the 41st year, 50 marks paid at the Michaelmas Exchequer of the 40th year of their recent fine of 60 marks for a charter of liberties,[ seeing that they paid in the wardrobe to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper, another 50 marks on that account by distress on the day of Epiphany, and 10 marks at which they were amerced for failure to pay the said 50 marks at 15 days from Michaelmas as enjoined.
