336 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 13-cont. spent in purchase of lampreys, shad and salmon in Lent of that year; and 41. 5s. spent in repair of the king's weir of Menstrewrth while sheriff for the 34th year; unless allowance has been already made by writs of comp[utabitur]. Liberate to Geoffrey de Leuekenor 9 marks 8s. for his expenses in going to make sales in the king's demesne woods in cos. Nottingham, York, Northumberland, Cumberland, and Lancaster, 2s. daily having been assigned to him for his maintenance while in those counties on that business. Liberate to the abbot of the Holy Cross without Bordeaux 10 marks for his expenses. Liberate without delay to the messengers of the countess of Angoul6me and of Isabel de Croun the king's sister 6 marks, being 3 marks each of the king's gift for their expenses homewards. Nov. 5. Liberate to Master Thomas the king's surgeon, who is sick at Windsor. London, 50s. of the king's gift for his expenses. Liberate to Perin, messenger of John de Dornay, 2 marks, and to Guillemin, messenger of Hugh Espaulard, 2 marks, for their expenses homewards, the king being at present unable to pay his debts to their masters. Liberate to John Renger, king's clerk, 101. yearly at the Easter Exchequer and 101. at that of Michaelmas of the 201. granted to him yearly so long as he shall be in the king's service. Nov. 6. Liberate to Henry de Castello, brother of the king of Castile, Windsor. 40 marks for the expenses of his journey to France; and to his household remaining in England till his return 20s. daily for their maintenance from the Wednesday before St. Simon and St. Jude. Liberate to Geoffrey de Burlemmunt 60 marks in part payment of the arrears of his fee. Liberate to Punchard de la Duyne 100 marks for the like cause. Nov. 5 Liberate to Adam de Basinges, citizen of London, 61. 5s. 6d. Windsor. for divers things bought of him for the decoration of two copes of saffron samite given to the church of St. Martin's le-Grand, London, that is, for 2 wide orphreys 7 marks, for 2 narrow ones 7 marks, for 2 shoulder-pieces (crestis) 16d., for 6 fringes 28., for silk cloth 5s. 6d., for waxed cloth 16d., and for making 28.; 488. 6d. for divers things bought for the decoration of a saffron chasuble given to the same, that is, for one wide orphrey 2j marks, for one
