39 HENRY III. 241 1255. Membrane 2-cont. king's gift 3 marks to Bernard de Burdel, 5 marks to Hugh de Nede, and 5 marks to William de Muntrevel, all king's yeomen, in recompense for horses lost in the king's journey northwards. By K. Allocate to the same, in the same issues, 8 marks delivered by order of R. de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, and J. Maunsell, provost of Beverley, to Eustace Heyrun, crossbowman, to go with them into Scotland, being arrears of his wages while with the king in Gascony. Sept. 26. Newcastle-onTyne. Allocate to the mayor and bailiffs of Newcastle-on-Tyne, in the farm of their town, 101. 16s. for 48 quarters of wheat delivered to Laurence de Mauneby, clerk of the pantry, to make bread for the king at Newcastle; 75s. for 180 pounds of wax bought of Boydekyn le Flemmeng and Thomas Torold and delivered in the wardrobe to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper, as witnessed (testificatas) by Peter de Winton, clerk of the wardrobe; 6 marks paid to Robert de Fer[ariis] and 40s. to Henry de Hasting, both king's yeomen, for horses lost while going with the king towards the parts of Scotland; 20s. paid to the nuns of Newcastle of the king's gift; and 151. delivered to William de Sancta Ermina, P. Everardi, Waukelin de Ardern, Bartholomew le Bygod, William Gernun, Ralph de Bakepuz, and Imbert Pogeys, that is, 40s. each (sic), for loss of horses on the king's service in the parts of Scotland. By William de Grey. Sept. 26. Allocate to the same in the said farm 10 marks delivered to the Durham. king's steward William de Grey and 3 marks to Henry le Peytevyn, of the king's gift for the loss of their horses on the king's journey towards Scotland. Sept. 26. Allocate to the same in the said farm 24s. 7d. spent in unloading Durham. 76 tuns of wine sent from York by the sheriff of York, and storing (hospitandis) them at Newcastle. Sept. 28. Allocate to William Heyrun, sheriff of Northumberland, in the Darlington. farm of the county, 1921. 12s. 8d. spent in purchase of 83 quarters of [wheat], 52 tuns of wine, meat, fish, brushwood, litter, coal, oats, and hay delivered to the serjeants of the household for the king's expenses while in the parts of Northumberland, and in carriage thereof to divers places there, by view and testimony of William de Grey the king's steward, as reckoned by him and Artald de Sancto Romano and Aubrey de Fiscampo, [keepers] of the wardrobe, where they have the particulars enrolled. To the bailiffs of Newcastle-on-Tyne. Contrabreve to carry 59 tuns of wine in their keeping at Newcastle, of those sent from 16-(22)
