228 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1255. Membrane 5 —cont. Liberate to Walter de Sancto Johanne 71. 8s. 3d. arrears of his wages while with the king on his service in Gascony, as reckoned by Richard le Rus (Ruffum), king's clerk, receiving from Walter the king's letters patent therefor (not enrolled). Liberate to Master Payn, provost of the church of St. Saviour in the diocese of Genoa and chaplain of the pope, 1,000 marks due to the pope for the 39th year of the rent (censu) of 1,000 marks which he receives yearly. June 20. Liberate without delay to the abbess and nuns of Fontevraud Woodstock. or to their known messenger bearing these letters, at the next Michaelmas Exchequer without further delay, 801. 50s. for Michaelmas term in the 38th year and 801. 50s. for Michaelmas term in the 39th year of the 801. 50s. which they receive yearly of the fixed alms of the king and his predecessors. Liberate without delay to Mabel, late the wife of Master Henry the king's surgeon, for the maintenance of his children, 5 marks 7s. 8d. for Easter term in the 39th year of his yearly fee of 101., from which fee is to be deducted 51s. 4d. yearly for 13 shops in London late of Peter de Frowik (see Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, pp. 205 and 342). Liberate without delay to John de Castello, knight, 30 marks due to him for Michaelmas term in the 39th year of his yearly fee of 50 marks (see same Calendar, p. 413). Liberate without delay to Artald de Sancto Romano, king's clerk, keeper of the wardrobe, 300 marks to do what the king has enjoined. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to buy a tun of wine and deliver it to the wife of Drew de Barentyn of the king's gift. June 22. To John de Somercote, keeper of the exchange. Contrabreve Woodstock. to pay 200 marks without delay out of the king's share of the profits of the exchange to Artald de Sancto Romano (as above). Liberate to Roger le Convers 100s. arrears of his wages while on the king's service in Gascony, and 21 marks 7s. arrears of his wages while with the king of Castile in Spain, all as reckoned by Richard le Rus (Ruffum) and Ralph Lof, king's clerks. Liberate to Sancho (Sanctio), clerk of Philip, elect of Seville, setting aside all delay and hindrance, 10 marks of the king's gift for his expenses homewards.
