Contrabreve to mend the paintings in the king's and queen's chambers at Clarendon and all the other defects there, and the defects of the king's hall and the chamber by the well; to finish the bailiff's chamber and roof it with tiles; and to make a privy chamber for the chamber above (ultra) the rock; the cost to be credited by view and testimony of lawful men. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to pay to Master Gerard the king's engineer 20s. for Michaelmas term in the 37th year, 20s. for Easter term in the 38th year, 20s. for Michaelmas term following, and 20s. for Easter term in the 39th year, of the 40s. granted to him yearly for keeping the king's buildings in his castle of Winchester. Liberate to John de Swyneford 101. for Easter term in the 39th year of his yearly fee of 201. May 25. Liberate without any delay or hindrance to Bernard Jordani Marlborough. and Gaylard de Cambel, yeomen (vatlettis) of Bernard de Myro Monte and Bernard de Turri, 10 marks for their expenses homewards. To Henry de la Mare, keeper of the king's castle of Merleberge and manor of Lutegareshale. Contrabreve to make a new stable in the castle of Merleberge as the king instructed him (vobis divisimus), to place a new glass window in the gallery (oriolo) in front of the queen's chamber, and to repair the pond and bays of the king's stew and the wall in the tower where necessary; to make a limekiln (rogum) there and another at Lutegareshale; and to wainscot and roof the king's chamber at Lutegareshale, to wainscot the queen's chamber, to paint an image of St. Nicholas, and to set up and repair the castle wall and the battlements, which are defective. Cancelled quia redditum fuit breve. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to pay 101. without delay to Ellis de Hertford 101. for Easter term in the 39th year of the 201. granted to him yearly to maintain himself in the king's service in the office of escheator. May 28. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to buy 1500 boards for Abingdon. wainscoting in his bailiwick and carry them without delay to Lutegareshale for the king's works there. To the constable of the castle of Devizes. Contrabreve to make 16,000 shingles in the forest of Devizes and carry them as above.
