Membrane 13-cont. mas in the 37th year, and 111. 16s. 9d. to pay for the king's purveyances against the [same] feast; to brother Lewis de Ispannia 61s. 8d. to buy a cup of the king's gift; to Simon Passelewe 21s. to pay for the carriage of the king's treasure to Portem' at St. Peter's Chains in the 38th year; to Richard de Ewelle..1. to make purchases for the king in divers fairs against his arrival in England; to Eymo, constable of Windesores, and Simon de Wycumb, keepers of the king's children dwelling at Windesores, 271. 10s. 9d. to pay the children's expenses; and to Andrew Poyn[ant] 20s. to make certain small purveyances for the wardrobe against the king's arrival in England. To John de Sumercote, keeper of the exchange. Contrabreve to pay 45 marks without delay to Thomas Abelin out of the king's share of the issues of the exchange to make certain small purchases for the king against the coming Christmas, and to pay for the carriage of wines taken for the king against the same feast. To Sampson de Bremegrave, bailiff of Feckenham. Contrabreve to repair where necessary the king's stew at Feckenham with 8 oaks of 'wertwode' and 30 cartloads of thorns from the pasture (la Berse) to be delivered by Ernald de Bosco, justice of the forest. Dec. 26. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to carry the king's wardrobe Dover. which is at Canterbury to the Tower of London without delay under a sure guard for delivery to John de Stratford [and] Richard de Ewelle. To the sheriff of Devon. Contrabreve to pay 201. to Nicholas de Turri (as in 13th entry above) out of the fines and amercements made before the king and his council residing in England for which the summons has reached the sheriff. Dec. 30. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to rack two tuns of the Faversham. king's wines at Suttun without delay and carry them to Lesnes by the Circumcision or early the following morning against the king's arrival. Mandate to the master of the hospital of Suttun to permit the bearer of these presents to deal with the wines accordingly. 1255. Jan. 1. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to carry the whale which Rochester. lately ran ashore at Middelton to Westminster without delay for delivery to the keeper of the king's larder. Allocate to Ralph de Arderne, sheriff of Essex, in the issues of the county, 28s. spent in the carriage of 94 bucks from Havering to Canterbury against Christmas last, and in guarding them on the way.
