180 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1254. Membrane l-cont. Liberate to John Malemort hisliveries (as on p. 151) from Michaelmas in the 38th year till Easter following. Oct. 15. Liberate to S. de Monte Forti, earl of Leicester, 2001. (as on p. 167) Westminster, for Michaelmas term in the 38th year. Liberate to brother Alan de Kancia, brother of the order of the Temple in England, 4,000 marks to take by land to the king in Gascony, and 60 marks for his expenses. Liberate to the sacrist of Westminster 12 (obol 'de muse') arrears for the Translation of St. Edward last past, of 20 which the king granted yearly to be paid as chevage on the high altar at Westminster by the hand of the king or queen if present in the realm, and if not, by the hand of the treasurer for the time being, that is, 12 at the feast of the saint's deposition and 12 at that of his translation. Oct. 17. Liberate to William Luvel and Philip, Richard, and Henry de Westminster. Caundovere, the king's huntsmen, 10 marks imprest on their wages for their expenses. Allocate to William de Tinhide, sheriff of Wilts, in the issues of the county, 81. 2s. 6d. spent in purchase of 600 ells of linen against the feast of St. Edward last, which he delivered to Philip the king's treasurer and Edward de Westm' to make napkins against the feast. To the bailiffs of Suhampton. Contrabreve to pay to William de Chabbeneys 151. for Easter term in the 38th year and 151. for Michaelmas term following of his yearly fee of 301. and 201. and 201. arrears for the same terms of his yearly fee of 401. (as on p. 173). To the sheriff of Wilts. Contrabreve to buy lead and therewith sheet (plumbari) the great tower in the king's castle of Salisbury and the tower over (ultra) the queen's chamber at Clarendon, to enclose the park of Clarendon with a hedge where paling was previously ordered, to remove 40 perches of paling from the top of the park to the bottom towards the lawn, and to repair the buildings at Clarendon and Salisbury castle where necessary. To the bailiffs of Andovere. Contrabreve to obey and answer Robert Waleram for the rents and issues of the manor of Andovere term by term from Michaelmas term in the 38th year, as they have been used to answer the king, till Robert has fully received therefrom 350 marks due to him from the land of Wykham, which the king bought of him for William de Valencia after granting it to
