6 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1251. Membrane 18-cont. *To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to find immediate transport to York for what is requisite as P. Chacepork, keeper of the wardrobe, will tell, so that the king's business may not be hindered by their default. By the steward. To the constable of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to permit Philip and Richard de Candevere the king's huntsmen to take 200 pigs and wild sows in the forest of Dene and to salt them and pickle their heads and carry them to Notingham. By K. Liberate as soon as may conveniently be to Alice de Blesis the king's kinswoman, formerly abbess of Fontevraud, 251. for Michaelmas term in the 33rd year of the 251. granted to her for maintenance during her life. Cancelled. By K. Nov. 13. Liberate without delay to Bertram de Crioil, constable of Dover, Tewkesbury. 320 marks for Michaelmas term in the 35th year of 640 marks granted to him yearly for keeping the castle. By K. To the sheriff of Gloucester. Contrabreve to have the tower of Gloucester castle fitted with planks and joists, to mend the leadwork so that it shall be in good condition, to mend and heighten the four turrets, to crenellate the wall of the chapel and cope it with lead (plumbari), to rough-cast the great tower with free mortar (libero mortario), and to make a chamber for the chaplains and a glass window at the end of the king's chamber; the cost to be allowed by view and testimony of lawful men. By K. Liberate to Bernard de Villa Honoris, king's yeoman, 10 marks of the king's gift. By K. Nov. 16. Allocate to William son of Nicholas of Bristol, in his fine of Worcester. 50 marks for trespass, 25 marks delivered by him to the keepers of the king's works at Bristol about Martinmas in the 36th year. By K. To A. La Zusche, justice of Chester. Contrabreve to carry the 10001. of the old money which the abbot of St. Wereburg's at Chester will deliver to him from the treasure of Ireland to Westminster without delay for delivery to the treasurer and chamberlains of the Exchequer there. By K. Nov. 19. Liberate to the king's six chaplains at Westminster 61. of the Feckenham. king's gift. By K. Liberate to P.
