HOUSEHOLD ARTS FOR HIGH SCHOOLS
SEVENTH YEAR-SEWING
Time: Two periods a week.
Sewing: Fundamental stitches in hand sewing; darning and mending;
principles involved in making simple garments.
Textile work: Study of cotton and linen; goods and trimmings suitable for underclothes and for wash dresses.
Making of simple garments selected by the teacher.
EIGHTH YEAR-COOKING
Time: Two periods a week.
Use and care of utensils; cook stoves and ranges; fuels, value of each.
Study of foods: Food value; digestibility; method of serving; proper
combinations; cost. Study water, fruits, sugar, st'arch, cereals, vegetables. Study eggs, milk, meat, fish. Leavening agents, batters and
doughs.
