The veiled species of Hebeloma in the western United States / Alexander H. Smith, Vera Stucky Evenson, and Duane H. Mitchel.

The Subgenus HEBELOMA The features of this taxon are the presence of a fibrillose veil, often scanty, that when broken usually leaves remnants on the margin of the pileus and/or on the stipe. A second character is the presence of typically fusoid-ventricose, often narrow and greatly elongated cells among those along the edges of the gills (the cheilocystidia). The fusoid-ventricose cystidia are abundant to rare depending on the species being examined. The type species of the genus is Hebeloma fastibile (Pers.: Fr.) Kummer. The subgenus containing the type species of the genus automatically bears the name of the genus. Key to Major Infrageneric Taxa of HEBELOMA 1.
