Pileus 3-7 (10) cm broad, obtuse to broadly convex, expanding to broadly convex to plane or shallowly depressed, the margin often split, margin entire and straight at first but often flaring at maturity; surface dry and unpolished to pruinose to almost pulverulent, sometimes appearing glabrous near the margin, sometimes appearing granulose-reticulate when old; color variable, chestnut-brown to biscuit color or tawnyorange to orange or reddish or cinnamon to bright yellow-brown ("cinnamon-brown" to "ochraceous-buff' or "ochraceous-orange" or "orange-rufous" to "Sanford's brown" to "Mars-yellow" to "pinkish cinnamon"), to fulvous to cinnamon or lateritious. Context up to 1 cm thick, white, unchanging when bruised or exposed, fragile, taste slightly acid to not distinctive, odor not distinctive, KOH-brownish, FeSO4 -brownish. Tubes shallow (5-8 mm long), free or deeply depressed around the stipe, rarely adnate to subdecurrent, white when young, becoming yellowish ("cream color") or brighter yellow ("Naples-yellow" to *The collections are arranged by counties and the latter alphabetically.
