Description

General Description: Two dorsal fins; spines flexible; pectoral fins large.
Specific Description: Preopercular spine strongly curved, its length 2/3 or more eye diameter; lateral line complete; body sometimes with widely distributed prickles; broad isthmus separating gill membranes on throat; slender caudal peduncle; head triangular and mouth narrow when viewed from above.

Distribution

Distribution: Mackenzie and Saskatchewan River drainage to Hudson Bay; in all of the Great Lakes, inland lakes on Isle Royale and Lake Charlevoix, Michigan. Extinct in Lake Erie after 1950s.

Ecology

Ecology: Descending to 50-150 m. Feed on benthos. Length to 8-10 cm.
