BUt we do not approve that any of these things be done in the Church
without the lawfull cognisance, judgement & opinion of the Church and the Christian Magistrate, where there is any; and therefore we con∣ceive that there ought to be consti∣tuted some pious, knowing and pru∣dent persons for the cognisance and judgement of masters touching ma∣trimony, so that nothing be done rashly and imprudently therein, or e∣very man make his own pleasure his law; but that all things be done in a due manner,a 1.1 to edification & with∣out injury to any, whilestb 1.2 the name of God be blasphemed through us among the unbelievers.
