A Confession of Faith, Professed by the Church-Members at the Humiliation at Summerset-house Chappell.

Approved of by all the Pastors and Ministers then present.

I. WEE beleeve, That the Scriptures con∣tained in the Old and New Testa∣ment are the Word of God, written by the Prophets, and holy men as they were inspired by God, to be the rule of faith, and life, to his people.

II. We beleeve in God, the e∣ternal immence, incompre∣hensible Unity, who doth mani∣fest himselfe from eternity to e∣ternity by the Trinity.

III. We beleeve, That God the Father is from himselfe the Al∣mighty, and excellent glory, creator of heaven and earth, and from eternity to eternity doth whatsoever he will.

IV. Wee beleeve that Jesus Christ is the onely sonne of God begotten of the Father, and is the eternall brightnesse of his glory, and expresse image of his person, and in his divine nature, in all things equall with God the Fa∣ther.

V. We beleeve, That the ho∣ly ghost is the eternall Spirit of glory, proceeding from the Fa∣ther, and the Son.

VI. We beleeve, That through

the guilt and corruption of A∣dams sin, he and all his posterity, are by nature the children of wrath.

VII. We beleeve, That there is an eternall Covenant, between the Father and the Son, carryed on by the spirit for the salvation of the elect.

VIII. We beleeve, That God the Son tooke upon him the na∣ture of man, but without sinne, was conceived by the holy ghost, borne of a virgine, suffered for our sins, satisfied Gods justice due to us, bore the burden of Gods wrath in his soule by hea∣vinesse in his agony, and satis∣fied the justice of God in his body, which was crucified till he dyed; and was buried, and the third day hee rose againe from the dead, and having conque∣red sin, death, and hel for belee∣vers,

ascended into heaven, and is become a glorious mediator be∣tween God and Man, annointed of God to be an eternall King, Priest, and prophet to the Saints, and having made their peace with God, is sate downe on the right hand of the majesty on high; from whence he shal come at the last and dreadfull day to judge the world, when the Saints shall meet him in the clouds, and sit with him upon Thrones to judge all the hypocrites, wicked, and unbeleevers, to eternal dam∣nation, who shall be throwne with the devills to everlasting torment, both soule and body into hell: where the worme dy∣eth not, and the fire never shall be quenched.

IX. We beleeve, That Christ hath a spirituall and invisible Church, gathered from all parts

of the world, into spirituall fel∣lowship with himselfe, consist∣ing of all Gods Elect; of whom hee is the Head; who shall sing praises and halalujahs to God with him (in blisse) in heaven to all eternity.

X. Wee beleeve, that Christ hath particular Churches here upon earth, consisting of visible Saints in communion, who give up themselves by covenant, first to God, and then one to a∣nother, by the will of God, to serve the Lord and to walke ac∣cording to the rule of the Gospel unto whom Christ hath given the ministry, oracles and Ordi∣nances of God, for gathering and perfecting of the Saints, and doth by his owne presence and spirit (according to his pro∣mise) make them effectual to the elect, that at the day of the Lord

Christ he may gather those that beleeve into his Garner.

XI. We beleeve, that the pro∣mise made to beleevers, doth give their children a right to Baptisme, by sprinkling cleane water upon them, as a seale from God, that he hath gathered them from the Idolatrous Heathen, and will certainly save them if they beleeve.

XII. We beleeve, that through Christ Jesus our Redeemer and Saviour, and by him alone, with¦out any thing that wee can call ours, all our sins shall be for∣given us, our soules shall bee in blisse when our bodies are dead, and we shall reigne with him, at the day of Judgement, both in our soules and bodies (together with all the Elect) in eternal life, and blessednesse.

Amen.
