CHAP. LIII. Of Pollipodie, and his vertues.

THis hearb is well known to most men, and hath great ver∣tue against old greifs, and opilations, and all indisposi∣tions that come through distemperment of humours, because it evacuateth the body, cleanseth the head, and purgeth the bloud: and the order to make it is thus.

Take Pollipodie two ounces, Sene one ounce, Lignum Aloes half an ounce, mix these well together in a stone morter, then take white Wine as much as yee will, and for every pound of Wine put thereto ℥. i. of that mixture, and so let it stand four and twenty hours, and then drink it, for it will purge without any pain, those that have any indisposition of the stomack, weaknesse of the legs, and faintnesse of the body, and such like. Flegm, and the Sene purgeth Choller, as by the viscosity is known: The Lignum Aloes preserveth nature, so that by the ingredients yee may know the vertue of this compositi∣on. Yee shall understand, that this root would be gathered when the Sunne is afarre off; and that the cold time of the year doth begin to draw on, for then they are of most force.
