1 A And after these things, I saw four Angels1 [i. e. Ministers of God's Providence;] standing [in a readiness to execute God's Commands] upon the four corners [i. e. Angles or Cardinal Points, Ezek. 7.2. Matth. 24.31. Zech. 2.6.] of the Earth; hold∣ing [back or restraining,] the four winds [or Instruments of trouble and commotion, Jerem. 49.36. Dan. 7.2. Zech. 6.5.] of the Earth; that the Wind2should not blow upon the Earth3 [i. e. that the Roman Empire should not be disturbed;] nor on the3Sea [i. e. the common People, Chap. 17.15.] nor on any Tree3 [i. e. the great ones, Isa. 2.13. Zech. 11.2.]
