¶ The .xix. Chapiter. ❧ An Acte, touchyng the ex∣chaunge of Golde and Siluer. (Book 19)

WHere in the Parlament holden at Westmynster the .xxv. yere of the reigne of Kyng Edwarde the thirde, it was ac∣corded, that it should be lawful for euery mā to exchaunge Golde for Siluer, or Siluer for Golde, or for Golde and Siluer, so that no manne did holde the same as exchaun∣ged,

nor take no profite for makyng of suche exchaunge, vpon paine of forfeicture of the money so exchaunged, excepte the Kynges exchaun∣gers, whiche take profite of suche exchaunge, accordyng to an ordi∣naunce before that tyme made. Whiche Statute notwithstandyng, diuers couetous persons of their owne aucthorities, haue of late taken vpon them to make exchaunges, aswel of coigned golde, as of coigned siluer, receiuyng and payeng therfore, more in value then hath bene de∣clared by the Kynges Proclamacion to be curraunt for, within this his Realme, and other his dominions, to the great hynderaunce of the commune wealth of this Realme.

Be it therfore enacted by the Kyng our Souereigne Lorde by thas∣sent of the Lordes, and Commons in this present Parlament assem∣bled, and by thaucthoritie of the same, that if any person, or persones, after the firste day of Aprill nexte commyng, exchaunge any coigned Golde, coigned Siluer, or money, geuyng, receiuyng, or payeng any more in value, benefite, profite, or aduauntage for it, then the same is, or shalbe declared by the Kynges Maiesties Proclamacion to be currāt for, within this his highnes Realme, and other his dominions: That then al thesaid coigned Golde, Siluer, and money so exchaun∣ged, and euery parte, and parcel therof shalbe forfeicte, and the parties so offendyng, shal suffre imprisonement by the space of one whole yere, and make fyne at the Kynges pleasure. The one moietie of thesaid Golde, Siluer, or coigne so forfeicted to be to the Kyng our souereigne Lorde, and the other moietie to be to the partie that seaseth the same, or will sue for it by Bille, Plainte, Original, Action of debte, Infor∣macion, or otherwyse in any of the Kynges Courtes of recorde, in whiche suite, no essoine, protection, or wager of lawe shall lye, be allo∣wed, or admitted.
