Who is the Author of the Ecclesiasticall censure?

God himselfe, for alwaies from the beginning of the world, this discipline was vsed in the Church of God, wherby the Church in generall was not onely discerned from men which were ma∣nifestly profane (as in times past before the flood, the sonnes of God, that is, the godly which were deriued from the posteritie of Seth, from the sonnes of men, that is, from the wicked of Caines familied 1.1) but those which did misdemeane themselues, were cast out of the bosome of the Church, in which sense the ancient fathers thought Caine to bee cast out from the presence of the Lord e.

And those which were of mature yeares, being vncircumcised, if they did neglect circumcision, or being by their parents neglected was approued of them, were cut off by the commaundement of God from his people, that is from the societie of the Saintsg 1.2, and by the law of God diuerse rites concerning pollution, as of the leaprosie, and other seuerings, purgings and expiationsa 1.3 were ap∣pointed to the consistorian Synagogue.

Lastly Christ himselfe hath expresly appointed this order, be∣ing (as we haue learned) deriued vnto vs from the Church of I∣sraell:b 1.4, and Paul himselfe at Corinth, and else where hath com∣manded the same to be keptc 1.5, and 2. Thes. 3.14. saith,d 1.6 if any har∣ken not to our speech by Epistle, marke him,e 1.7 to wit with the note of excommunication.
