Syrup of Scammony.

℞. Choice Scammony grosly powder'd 6 drams, Liquorice rasp'd and beaten 3 drams; infuse them for three days in a pint and a half of good Brandy; then filter the Tin∣cture, add 2 pound of Sugar, and evapo∣rate it into a Syrup.

Diagridium Glycyrrhisatum is made after this manner. Half an ounce of slic'd Li∣quorice being infus'd for 2 hours in 9 ounces of hot water, the Liquor is pour'd into an earthen glaz'd Pipkin upon 4 oun∣ces of Scammony, and put upon a gentle fire untill the moisture being consumed, the Scammony becomes solid and firm as before: this given from half a Scruple to a Scruple purges briskly without griping in the least.
