Generals.

GOd will bring down the high looks, Ps. 18.27.

The Saints shal be hid from the pride of such, Ps. 3.20.

God plentifully re∣wardeth proud doers, Ps. 31.32.

The foot of pride is a terrible enemy, Psal. 36.11.

Wicked men are ta∣ken therein, and for cursing and lying which they speak, Ps. 59.12.

Their contempt a∣gainst good men, a great burden, Ps. 123.4.

A high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked is sinne, Pro. 21.4.

Wee should not be puffed up one against another, 1 Cor. 4.6.

The lofty looks of man must be humbled and the haughtinesse of man shall be brought down, Isa. 2.11.

Nature.

Such are ready to rise against Gods people, Psal. 86.14.

With their mouth they speak proudly, Ps. 17.10.

Such cursed proud ones erre from Gods com∣mandements, Ps. 119.121.

They are especially apt to deceive the Saints Ps. 119.51.

They are apt to forge lies, Ps. 119.69.

They are apt to speak perversly without cause Ps. 119.78.

They are apt to dig pits for the Saints, Ps. 119.83.

They are inclined to oppression, Ps. 119.122.

They stir up strife,, Pro. 28.25.

They believe gain to be godlines. 1 Tim. 6 5.

They are stout of heart, Isa. 9.9.

They are very proud like Moab, ful of haugh∣tinesse and wrath, Isa. 16.16.

In their foolish mouth there is a rod thereof, Pro. 14.3.

It is a deceitful thing, Ier. 49.16.

They know nothing, but are doting about questions and strife of words, 1 Tim. 6.4.

Effects.

It makes the wicked to persecute the poor, Ps. 10.2.

To hide snares for the godly, and as it were spread nets and gins by the way for them, Ps. 140.5.

It procures abundance of matchlesse misery & desolation, Jer. 50.29.

It makes us to for∣get God, Hos. 13.6. Deu. 8.14.

Danger.

That God wil bring down such high looks,

That God through his understanding smi∣teth through such, Job 26.12.

The rage of Gods in∣dignation is cast abroad to cast down such, Job 40.11.

He looks upon every one that is proud, to bring them low, Job 40.12.

Flattering lips shal be cut off, and the tongue that speaketh proud things, Ps. 12.3.

He hates a proud look Pro. 6.17.

He wil destroy their houses, Pro. 15.25.

All such are abomi∣nation unto the Lord, and cannot go unpuni∣shed, Pro. 16.5.

The day of the Lord of hosts shal be on eve∣ry one that is proud and lofty, and upon all life up, to throw them down Isa. 1.2.

The Lord warres against proud men, to make them stumble, Ier. 50.31.

It is one of the sinnes for which Sodome was destroyed, Ezek. 16.49.

Sore destruction comes upon people for it,

Whosoever exalt them selves, must be abased, Mat. 23.12.

God scattereth such in the imaginations of their hearts, Luk. 1.5.

Tryals.

It is God that with∣drawes a man from his purpose, that he may

hide pride from him, Job 33.17.

The pride of the wic∣keds countenance wil not suffer them to seek after God, he is not in all their thoughts, Ps. 10.4.

It compasseth the wicked as with a chain, Ps. 37.6.

God renders a reward unto such, Ps. 94.2.

He knows such afar off, Ps. 138.6.

When it cometh then cometh shame, Pr. 11.2.

It is the cause of all contention, Pr. 13.10.

It precedeth destru∣ction, as a haughty Spi∣rit before a fal, Prov. 16.18.

It is a signe of de∣struction, and a haugh∣ty Spirit is a forerun∣ner unto it, Pro. 18.2.
