XLVI. Holinesse. Sanctification.

Generals.

WE must be holy as he is holy in all manner of conversa∣tion, 1 Pet. 1.15.

Children ought to be lookt after, and san∣ctified, Job. 1.5.

God is terrible out of his holy places, Ps. 68.35.

Wee should give thankes at the remem∣brance of his holinesse, Ps. 97.12.

We should worship, at his holy hil, for he is holy, Ps. 99.9.

The Lord is righte∣ous in all his ways, and holy in all his workes, Ps. 145.17.

There should be no hurt nor destruction in all Gods holy moun∣taine, Isa. 11. Isa. 65.25.

Our bodies and souls should be presented as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable before him, Rom. 12.1.

There is none like God, glorious in holi∣nes, &c. Exod. 15 11,

Those who mini∣ster about holy things should live of the things

of the temple, 1 Cor. 3.13.

The mystery of godli∣nesse is very great, 1 Tim. 3.16.

All that will live god∣ly in Christ Iesus shall suffer persecution, 2 Tim 3.12.

In our course of ho∣linesse, we cannot do the things which we would, Galath. 5.17.

God is holy, holy, ho∣ly, the Lord God al∣mighty, which was, which is, and which is to come. Rev. 4.8.

Manner.

As he who hath called us is holy, so must we be, in all manner of conversation, 1 Pet. 1.13, 14.

Such so qualified must purge themselves even as he is pure, 1 Iohn 3.3.

God must bee wor∣shiped in the beauty of holines, Psal. 96.9.

Necessity.

Without it no man can see the Lord, Heb. 12.14.

Because no unclean or polluted thing can enter therein, Revel. 21.27.

Because unlesse a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he can in no wayes enter into heaven, Iohn 3.5.

Because if any man be in Christ, he must be a new creature, 2 Cor. 5.17.

Because with God nothing is availeable, but a new creature, Gal. 5.6.

Because we are saved and called by an holy calling, 2 Tim. 1.9.

Danger of wanting.

It is a snare to devour that which is holy, and after vows to make en∣quiry, Pro. 20.25.

Despising the words of the holy One of Is∣rael, is destruction, Isa. 5.24.

It is wicked hypocri∣sie, despising others, to brag thereof, Isa. 65.5.

Encouragements.

Then we may boldly enter into the Holiest, by the blood of Jesus, Heb. 10.19.

That such as are san∣ctified by God the Fa∣ther, are preserved in Christ Jesus and called Jude 1.

That godlines with contentment is great gain, 1 Tim. 1.6.

Motives unto it.

The Commandment is holy, just and good, Rom. 7.12.

Because such who sow to the Spirit, shal of the Spirit reape life everla∣sting, Galat. 6.8.

Such shall have peace in this their strong wra∣stlings, Gal. 6.16.

Such coming out of darknes to be light in the Lord, should walk as children of the light, Eph. 1.8.

The Church sancti∣fied by God, should be a glorious Church, with∣out spote or wrinkle, Eph. 3.27.

Because the new crea∣ture is renew'd in know¦ledge, according unto the image of him who created him, Colos. 3.10.

Because it is the will

of God our sanctifica∣tion, 1 Thes. 4.3.

Because God hath not appointed us unto uncleannes, but unto holines, 1 Thes. 4.7.

Because that unto the pure all things are pure, 1 Tim. 1.15.

Because Christ gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purifie unto himself a peculiar people zealous of good works, Titus 2.14.

Because we are saved by the washing of rege∣neration, and the re∣newing of the Holy Ghost, Tit. 1.3.

It is presumed that the Saints are called sanctified ones, Isa. 13.9

Gods dwelling is in the high and holy place Isa. 57.15.

Gods courts are courts of holines, Isa. 62.9.

The Saints are called a holy people, redeem∣ed of the Lord, Isa 62 12

They are said to be the people of his holi∣nes, Isa. 63.18.

Our cities should be holy cities, Isa. 64.10.

It is Gods motto and impression upon all he owns, Zech. 14.21.

His covenant is a ho∣ly covenant, Luk. 1.72.

He hath sworne that we should serve him in holines and righteous∣nes, all our days, Luke 1.75.

The Scriptures are holy, Rom. 1.2.

Christ was declared to be the Son of God, according to the Spirit of holines, Rom. 1.4.

We should so purge out the old leaven, as we may be a new lump, 1 Cor. 5.7.

The Saints shal judge the world, 1 Cor. 6.2.

Salutations must be holy, 1 Cor. 16.20.

Christ died, that we should not live unto our selves, &c. 2 Cor. 5.15.

Because old things are passed away, and all things are become new, 2 Cor. 5.16.

The Saints are a holy people, Deut. 7.6.

Gods habitation is a holy habitation, Deut. 26.15.

Holinesse was engra∣ven upon all consecra∣ted things, Ezra 8.28.

All places ought to be sanctified unto God Neh. 3.1.

Gods foundation is in the holy mountains, Ps. 87.1.

His promise is holy, Ps. 105.22.

Trials.

There should be no hurt nor destruction in all Gods holy moun∣tain, Isa. 11.9.

The knowledge of the holy is understand∣ing, Prov. 9.10.

The Lords holy arm and his right hand gets him the victory, Ps. 98.1.

Christ sanctified him∣self, that we also might be sanctified through the truth, John 17.19.

Our sanctified offer∣ings are acceptable tho∣row the Holy Ghost, Rom 15.6.

Holy children, the work of Gods hands, shuld sanctifie his name and sanctifie the Holy one of Jacob, Isa. 29.23

The Lord must be sanctified in our hearts, 1 Pet. 1.15.

It is matter of great rejoiceing, to have the Holy one of Israel in the midst of us, Isay 12.6.

He that sanctifieth, and they which are san∣ctified, are all of one, &c. Heb. 2.11.

Some have a forme of godlines, but have denied the power there∣of, 2 Tim. 3.5.

Those are proud who consent not to whole∣some doctrine accord∣ing to godlines, &c. 1 Tim. 6.3, 4.

It is profitable unto all things, having the promise of this life and of that which is to come, 1 Tim. 4.8.

The creatures are sanctified by the word of God and prayer, 1 Tim. 4.5.

Those who are Christs have crucified the flesh with the lusts of it, Gal. 5.24.

Attaining.

We were elected by the foreknowledge of God the Father through sanctification of the Spirit, &c. 1 Pet. 1.2.

Our souls are purified through obeying the truth, through the Spi∣rit, 1 Pet. 1.22.

We are borne again through the incorrupti∣ble seed of the word of God, 1 Pet. 1.23.

All things pertaining to life and godlinesse, are given us through the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord, 2 Pet. 1.4.

The heart is purified by faith, Act. 15.9.

By being renewed in the Spirit of our mind,

So putting on the new man, which after God is created in righteous∣nes and true holines, Eph. 4.23, 24.

By walking circum∣spectly, not as fools, but as wise men, Eph. 5.15.

By the washing of water, through the word, Christ sanctifies his Church, Eph. 5.26.

By putting on the whole arm our of God, Eph. 6.13.

The God of peace, he sanctifies us wholly 1 Thess. 5.23.

We are chosen to salvation through san∣ctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth, 2 Thess. 2.13.

The grace of God, &c. teaches us to deny ungodlines and world∣ly lusts, that we might live soberly, righteously and godly, &c. Tit. 2.12, 13.

Wee are sanctified through the truth, Iohn 17.19.

Christ for our sakes sanctifieth himself, that we also might be san∣ctified through the truth Iohn 17.17, 19.

We are washed san∣ctified and justified by the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the power of our God, 1 Cor. 7, 11.

The unbelieving hus∣band is sanctified by the believing wife, &c. 1 Cor. 7.14.

We are transformed into the image of Christ from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord, 2 Cor. 3.18.

The bearing about in our body the dying of the Lord Jesus, causes that the life of Jesus be made manifest in our body, 2 Cor. 4.10.11.

The many precious promises wee have, should make us to cleanse our selves from all filthines of the flesh and spirit, to perfect holinesse in the fear of the Lord, 2 Cor. 7.1.
