CI. Of Angels.

Generals.

THere were good & evil Angels once in Heaven, 2 Pet. 2.4.

There is no expresse place mentioning the time of their Creation.

The evil Angels kept not their station; but having sinned are cast down in hel unto chains of darknesse, reserved for damnation 2 Pet. 2.11

For speciail services they are sometims per∣mitted, and are able to assume humane shapes, Gen. 18.1. Don. 10. Luke 24.4.

Upon occasion, they descend and ascend to do service to the Al∣mighty Gen. 28.12.

They were not all so pure, but folly was char∣ged upon some of them Iob 4.18.

They know not rhe day and houre of the last judgment, Mat. 24.36

They must not be worshipped, Col. 2.18. Judg. 6.21.

An Angel of light tea∣ching any false doctrine is to be neglected and accursed, Gal. 1.8.

Christ was made so much more excellent then the Angels, in that he hath obtained a more exce••••ent name then they, Heb. 1.4.

The world to come is not put into subjecti∣on unto the Angels, Heb. 2.5.

Christ in his humane nature was for a space made inferiour unto them, that by the suffer∣ings of death he might taste death for all men Heb. 2., 9.

They are Gods hoste Gen 32.2.

Their names are se∣cret, Judg. 13.18.

Their Power

They according unto occasions, have great power to inflict grie∣vous punishments and crosses, Gen. 19.11.

They can make infi∣nite destruction when God sets them on, 2 King. 19.31. Is. 37.36. 2 Sam. 24.16.

They excel in strength and fore shew wonder∣full things, Ps. 103.20. Rev. 8.9.10.

Tryals.

Their countenance at sometime is very ter∣rible, Judg. 13.6.

We should not be rash before the Angels to speak or vow, Ec. 5.5

They did sometimes appear in dreams, and forewarn of things to come Matt. 20. Act. i0 3

They occasionally can heal diseases in troubled waters Iohn 5.4.

twenty thousand thou∣sand Angels where God is in the midst of them, Ps. 68.16

After the resurrecti∣on we shal be as the Angels of God in hea∣ven, Mat. 22 20.

When Christ commeth in the glory, then all his holy Angels wil accom∣pany him, Mat. 25.31.

Christ at his sufferings could have commanded more then ten legions of Angels, Mat. 26.35.

Christs second com∣ming shall be with a great shout, and with the voice of the Arch∣angels, 1 Thes. 4.16.

Christ shal shew him∣self from heaven with his mighty Angels, 2 Thes. 1.7.

The Law was recei∣ved by the ordinance of Angels, Acts 7.53.

It was ordained by Angels in the hand of a Mediator, Gal. 3.19.

The word spoken by them was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of re∣ward, Heb. 2.1.

Christ in no sort took their nature, but the seed of Abraham, Heb. 2.16

The Saints in this life are come to the fel∣lowship & communion with innumerable An∣gels, Heb. 12.22.

Angelicall tongues without love is nothing 1 Cor. 13.

What they are

They are Gods mini∣string spirits, terrible in action, Heb. 1.7.

They are swift mes∣sengers betwixt heaven and earth, to comfort the faithful, Dan. 9.21.

Offices on Earth

They are at all times ready to do good ac∣ceptable services, Gen. 16.7, 8. Mat. 4.11. Mat. 28.2.

Occasionally, they comfort the Saints ac∣cording unto their exi∣gents, Gen. 21.17. & 22.11

Sometimes they are set to stop us in our sin¦ful courses against God Num. 22.12, 35,

They sometime take notice of great offences to rebuke them, Iudg. 2:1, 2.

At Gods command they can work miracles Iudg. 6.21.

They are all ministring Spirits, sent forth to minister for their sakes who shall be heires of salvation, Heb. 1.14.

They pitch round about them that fear him, to deliver them, Ps. 34.7.

They scatter and per∣secute those whom the Lord is angry with, Ps. 35.5, 6.

In extreme great dan∣gers they have charge over the Saints, to keep them in all their wayes and to beare them in their hands, Psal. 91.10, 11, 12.

They do Gods com∣mandements in obey∣ing the voice of his word, Psal. 103.20.

To reveal strangethings to come, Dan. 8 19.

Occasionally they de∣livered messages from Heaven, Luke 1.13.

Sometimes they fore∣warn of dangers, Luke 2.13.

They revealed to the shepheards the glad ty∣dings of Christs incar∣nation, Luk. 2.11.15.

They comforted the Disciples at Christs a∣scension, and so depart∣ed, Act. 1, 11.

They have delivered the Saints, and so de∣parted from them, Act. 12.7, 10.

Their words upon earth were stedfast and firme

and disobedience there∣unto severely punished, Heb. 2.2.

They perform speedy extraordinary employ∣ment at Gods appoint∣ment, Luke 16.22.

Offices at Christs com∣ming to Judgement.

They all accompa∣ny CHRIST in flam∣ming fire, 2 Thess. 1.7.

With a loud sound of trumpet they shall gather together the E∣lect from the foure winds, and from the one end of Heaven to the other, Matth. 24.21.

They praise GOD continually, Rev. 4.11.
