PRAYER at NIGHT,

Psal. 141.1, 2.
Lord we call upon thee, hast thee unto us, and consider our voice when we cry unto thee. Let our Prayers be set forth in thy sight as the incense; and let the lifting up of our hands be an Evening-Sacrifice.

ALmighty and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws.* 1.1 [We have left undone those things which we ought to

have done, And we have done those things which we ought not to have done;] And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us miserable offen∣ders. Spare thou them, O God, which con∣fess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; according to thy promises de∣clared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant O most merciful Father for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

ALmighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent; Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowleging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord, we beseech thee, absolve us from our offences; that through thy bountiful goodness we may all be delivered from the bonds of those sins, which by our frailty we have committed. Grant this, O heavenly Fa∣ther, for Jesus Christs sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Page 19

GRant we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we who for our evil deeds do wor∣thily deserve to be punished, by the comfort of thy grace may mercifully be relieved, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Amen.

GRant unto us, we beseech thee Merci∣ful Lord, (and to all thy faithful peo∣ple) pardon and peace, that we may be cleans∣ed from all our sins; and serve Thee with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do pro∣ceed; Give unto us thy servants that peace which the world cannot give, that both our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that by thee we being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness, through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

LIghten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night, for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour Je∣sus Christ. Amen.

ALmighty God, who seest that we have no power of our selves to help our selves;

Page 20

Keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our Souls, that we may be de∣fended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the Soul, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy; increase and multiply upon us thy mercy, that thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally loose not the things eternal: Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christs sake our Lord. Amen.

O God, whose never-failing providence or∣dereth all things both in heaven and earth; We humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things, which be profitable for us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Almighty and most merciful God, of thy bountiful goodness so keep us, we beseech thee, from all things that may hurt us; that we being ready both in body and soul,, may chearfully accomplish those things that thou wouldst have done, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

GRant, O Lord, we beseech thee, that the course of this world may be so peacea∣bly ordered by thy governance, that thy Church may joyfully serve thee in all godly quietness, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALmighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified; Receive our suppli∣cations and prayers, which we offer before thee for all estates of men in thy holy Church, that every member of the same in his voca∣tion and ministry, may truly and Godly serve thee, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

ALmighty and everlasting God, we are taught by thy holy Word, that the hearts of Kings are in thy rule and governance, and that thou dost dispose and turn them as it seemeth best to thy godly wisdom; We humbly beseech thee so to dispose and govern the heart of JAMES thy servant, our King and Governour, that in all his thoughts, words, and works, he may ever seek thy ho∣nour and glory, and study to preserve thy people committed to his charge, in wealth, peace, and godliness. Grant this O merciful Father, for thy dear Sons sake, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Page 22

O Lord our God, who upholdest and go∣vernest all things in heaven and earth; Receive our humble prayers for our Sove∣raign Lord JAMES, set over us by thy grace and providence to be our King: And so toge∣ther with him bless the whole Royal Family with the dew of thy heavenly Spirit, that they ever trusting in thy goodness, protected by thy power, and crowned with thy gracious and endless favour, may continue before thee in health, peace, joy, and honour, a long and happy life upon earth, and after death obtain everlasting life and glory in the kingdom of heaven, by the merits and mediation of Christ Jesus our Saviour,: who with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, liveth and reigneth ever one God, world without end. Amen.

MOst gracious God, we humbly beseech thee, as for this kingdom in general, so especially for all those whom thou hast raised up to the government of the same; that thou wouldst be pleased to direct and prosper all their consultations and actions to the advancement of thy Glory, the good of thy Church, the safety, honour, and welfare of our Soveraign and his Kingdoms; that all things may be so ordered and setled by their endeavours upon the best and surest founda∣tions, that peace and happiness, truth and Ju∣stice,

Page 23

Religion and piety may be established among us for all generations. These and all other necessaries for them, for us, and thy whole Church, we humbly beg in the name and mediation of Jesus Christ our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

ALmighty God, the giver of all good gifts, who of thy divine providence hast ap∣pointed divers order in the Church; Give thy Grace, we humbly beseech thee, to all those who are called to any office and admi∣nistration in the same, (especially to those whom thou hast set over us to be our Spiritual Guides and instructors,) and so replenish them with the truth of thy doctrine, and en∣due them with innocency of life, that they may faithfully serve before thee, to the glory of thy great Name, and the benefit of thy holy Church, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALmighty and everlasting God, who mak∣est us both to will and to do those things that be good and acceptable to thy Divine Majesty; We make our humble supplications to thee (for* 1.2 all our Bene∣factors, Friends, Relations, and also for our very Ene∣mies,) Let thy fatherly hand, we beseech thee, ever be over them;

Page 24

let thy holy Spirit ever be with them; and so lead them in the knowledg and obedience of thy word, that in the end they may obtain everlasting life, through our Lord Jesus Christ, who with thee and the holy Ghost liveth and reigneth, ever one God world with∣out end. Amen.

ALmighty God, who shewest to them that be in errour the light of thy truth, to the intent that they may return into the way of righteousness; Grant unto all them that are admitted into the fellowship of Christs Reli∣gion, that they may eschew those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

ALmighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our Creation, Preservation. that of this day in particular, [* 1.3 and all the blessings of this life] but above all for thine inestimable love in the Redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace,

Page 25

and for the hope of glory. And we beseech thee give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we may shew forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giv∣ing up our selves to thy service, and by walk∣ing before thee in holiness and righteous∣ness all our days through Jesus Christ our Lord; to whom, with thee and the holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world with∣out end. Amen.

ALmighty and everlasting God, heavenly Father, we give thee humble thanks, that thou hast vouchsafed to call us to the know∣ledg of thy grace and faith in thee. Increase this knowledg, and confirm this faith in us evermore. Give us thy holy Spirit that we being born again, and made heirs of ever∣lasting Salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, may continue thy servants, and attain thy promises, through the same our Lord Je∣sus Christ thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

ALmighty and everlasting God, who dost govern all things in heaven and earth; Mercifully hear the supplications of thy ser∣vants, and grant us thy peace all the days of our life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Page 26

OUr Father which art in heaven; Hal∣lowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

UNto thy mercy and protection, O God, we commit our selves this night and e∣vermore. O Lord, bless and keep us. Lord, make thy face to shine upon us, and be gra∣cious unto us. Lord, lift up thy countenance upon us, and give us peace both now and e∣vermore. Amen.
