The Names.

IT is called by Dioscorides 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉, which is the same with Smilax hr∣tensis in Latine, quod Smilacu modo conscendit, because it climbes like a Bind-weed; by Theophrastus and others 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉, or as some write 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉 Do∣lichus or Dolcs, which many Latine Authors also follow; of some 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉 and 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉, because of their length. It is thought also to be the 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉 of Dioscorides, or as Galen writeth it 〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉〈 in non-Latin alphabet 〉, whence it is that it is called Phasiolus and Phaseolus in Latine. It is called the Kidney-Beane in English, because it representeth a Kidney; and the French-Beane, being, as it is very probable, brought over to us out of France.
