18. Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

Give due and timely correction to thy Son for his faults, before he have gotten an habit of them, and there be little hope of his amend∣ment: but neither proceed to such cruel usage of him, as to make him weary of life, and not to care what be∣comes of him; nor yet be moved merely by his roaring to abate of thy necessary se∣verity towards him.
