And first, he was a Priest ac∣cording to the Order of Aaron; by virtue whereof, he offer'd up himself upon the Cross; and by that Sacrifice of himself once offer'd, he compleated the whole Work of Satisfaction for Sin, and put an end to all the old legal Sacrifices; (which had indeed an Eye to this Satisfaction, but were not able to accomplish it.) To satisfie God for our sins, not only that one of Adam, but all the sins of all Mankind that truly repent and amend; and by this means to obtain for man Forgiveness of sins, the Favour of God, and Redemption from Hell and eternal Damna∣tion; which was the punishment
