SYnagoga, betokeneth in Latin a congregatiō or company of peo∣ple. The Churche of the Iewes which were the peculiar people of God, was sometyme called Synagoga, for Synagoga doth signi∣fie, that same thing that Ecclesia doth, but for the obstinacie and vnpla∣cable hatred of the Iewes, which they bare agaynst Christian Religion, it is become vile, and almost out of vse.
Saint Hierome Ad Geronciam viduam: doth write, that Lia with her bleare eyes, and Rachel (whom Iacob loued verie wel) doth signifie, the first, the sinagoga of the Iewes, the seconde, the Churche.
