An Ʋnguent for Ache, Bruise, or Spraine.

TAke Rue, Vervayne, Dill, selfe∣heale Yarrowe, Mugwort, Comfrey, Adders-tongue, red-〈◊〉〈◊〉, red-Fennell, red-Nettles, red-Dock-leaves, Valeryan, and Carduus Benedictus ana M: ij, bruise all these in a Morter, boyle them in lb. i d. of May Butter for a quarter of an houre still stir∣ring it, adde thereto oyle of Exeter, oyle of Dill ana i ʒ, let them boyle one walme more, first straine out the hearbs, then boyle the oyles, and anoynt therewith.

Ache in any Member.

BOyle Ox-gall, Aqua-vitae, of each a like in a Pipkin, scum it, and therewith a∣noynt the Member grieved with great la∣bour and hardnesse, then cover it warme with a piece of Furre till it be well.

Another for the same.

BOyle fresh Butter not salted in Malme∣sey, bathe the griefe very hot there∣with, make it up warme as before.

For any Ague falne into the Leggs, and swolne, the Cure.

TAke Plantine, Marigolds, Hounds∣tongue, S. Johns Wort, Bettony, red-Fennell, Southistle, Dandelion, Smallage, and Plumtree-leaves ana M i: shred them with Wheat-meale, then seeth them in hot Cowes milke, to a Plaister so apply it, this will dissolve the humour and digest it, by the serositie of the bloud; approved.

Aspasmus or Numnesse in Ioynts or else-where, to Cure.

LEt the Patient drink every morning fasting one ʒ of Camphire in a draught of Bettony-water, wherein infuse some Stoechados, this cureth in one moneth with the use thereof.

Argentum vivum to Mortifie.

FIrst beat an Almond in your Morter, then put thereinto so much powder of Verdigrease as a Beane, then put in your Quicksilver with a spoonfull of strong Vi∣negar, incorporate them all well together, this will Mortifie it well for any use.

Apoplex to Cure.

TAke Melilot, Pennyryall, Wilde-Tyme, Marjorum, Balme, Marjorum gentill ana i M: boyle them in water, and bathe or oment the head therewith warme, stampe the hearbs, put to them oyle of Rue, and of Lyllies and i ℥, apply them warme to the head, if the weather be cold then anoynt the head with warme oyles, as oyle of Dill.

Bever-cod, or Pyretrum, or such like, not onely the head but also the Neek and whole Back.

A Salve for the Apoplex.

TAke Calamus Costus roots ana iiij ℥, Siler, or siler Mountaine, Bazill seed ana iij ℥, melt and boyle all these together on a small fire of Char-coale in white wine vn∣till the wine be consumed, then mix the oyles with it & anoynt the whole head and the back bone all the length thereof downe to the end; if this cure not, then shave all the head, and apply this plaister following, spread on a piece of Leather, that all the head may be covered therewith. Take Galbanum, Sagapenum, Opoponax ana i ℥, Aloes succotirn i ʒ: Turpentine i ℥, melt them, and mix them together to a plaister.

Aqua Composita good for head, Memory, and all Diseases.

TAke the roots of Saxifrage, and the leaves, Parsley, Alexanders, Fennell, Tyme, Hysope, Pennyryall, Rosemary, La∣vander, Primroses, Mints, Origan, Sage,

Calamint, Avence, Bettony, Savine, Pen∣nyryall, Lettice, and Violets ana one small handfull, then take Galingale, Pepper of both sorts, small and long. Cloves, Mace, Nutmegs ana i ʒ, Cynamon, Cubebs, Set∣wall, Pellitory of Spaine, Lignum Aloes ana i ℥ di. stampe small the hearbs, and pound the spices, then infuse them all night in sixe quarts of red Wine, the next day di∣still them in a Lymbeck, so is it finished.

Another Aqua Composita.

TAke Wormewood ii M. Enula Cam∣pane a great root, ii Crops of Hore∣hound, Mints, Parsley, and Centory ana i M: Infuse all these powdred & bruised in three gallons of strong Ale or wine Lees, adde therto of Annis seed and Lycorice ana iiij ℥. bruised with some powder of Ireos and Calamus Aromat, distill them as before is set downe.

Aches or Lamenesse in Members or Joynts.

TAke oyle of Exeter, Aqua-vitae, and Oxe-Gall ana part aequales; Mix them

together in a great bladder shaking them well, anoynt therewith warme twice a day till you are well.

Aches olde, the Cure.

TAke oyle of Turpentine d i lb, oyle of Bayes iiij ℥, Mace, Cloves, Nutmegs, Cinnamon ana i ʒ, oyle of Spike i ℥, Iuniper∣berries viij ʒ, Castor, Euforbium ana i ʒ, Brocks grease iij ℥, Mummy i ʒ d. digest them for one moneth in horse-dung, then distill them artificially, and anoynt the griefe therewith.

Ache in Bones or Ioynts, the Cure.

TAke black knobs of the Ash tree in the Spring time, grinde them small, and boyle them over a soft fire with fresh But∣ter in an earthen pot sufficiently, then take them from the fire, let them coole, and keepe them close stopped, then take as ma∣ny of Broome flowers in May, grinde them as the other, then mixe them all together, and boyle them againe with a quarter of a pinte of Malmsey, then keepe it to anoynt the griefe therewith.

For all Aches in generall.

TAke young red Sage, and Rue ana i lb, young Bay-leaves iij ℥, Wormewood viij ʒ, wash them not, shred them small, Sheeps sewet hot out of the Sheepe iij lb, mixe the sewet and hearbs together, beating them in a Morter by a little at once with the hearbs till it be all greene, and no white seene of the sewet, then mixe all in a Panne with your hand in one pottle of oyle, then cover the Panne close, and set it in some pri∣vate place for eight dayes, then boyle it sim∣pering, still stirring it with a spatula, when it is halfe boyled, adde therto oyle of Spike iiij ʒ; when it is boyled enough drop one drop on a bright Sawcer, it will be very greene, then it is well boyled, then strayne it out very close, rub the small of the back therewith, it helpeth the Stone as much as a Pease, put into the eare with black wooll, cureth all griefes thereof, and all Aches are cured therewith.

An Oyle that cureth all Aches in Man, or Beast.

TAke of pure Sope ij ʒ, Aqua-vitae iij ʒ, liquid Storax ij ʒ, and boyle the Aqua-vitae, and boyle the other Simples therein, stirring it with a spoone till it come to a thick Vnguent, anoynt the griefe there∣with twice a day rubbing itvery well, and cover it warme with Furre or Cotten.

Ague, or burning Feaver, to coole or helpe.

MAke a posset of new Milk and Butter-Milk of a pottle, take off the Card, let the Patient drink so much thereof cold as he can, use it two or three times, it cooleth the body, and taketh a way the fit.

Item, after the Posset-Ale is disgested, let him to comfort his stomack drink Mace-Ale made with small Ale.

Item, also let him eate either great Peares or Wardens cold being baked; they comfort the stomack, and coole the body.

Ague, a Medicine to binde to the wrest, to Cure it.

MAke a plaister of Leather fit for the wrist pricked full of holes, and spred it over with Venice Turpentine, then strew it all over with powder of Rue and Fran∣kincense ana, mixe as much as will stick thereon, lay it to the wrist a little before the fit commeth, and let it ye untill the fit be gone.

Ague hot, a cooling Iulyp.

MVndifie French Barley i M. then boyle it in a gallon of raine-water, put therein Raysins of the Sunne stoned iiij ʒ, Damask-Prunes iij ʒ, boyle them to the Consumption of halfe, then strame it hard out and put them to the fire againe, and put therein Succory, Violet-leaves, Sanickle, Spinage, Strawberry-leaves, Borage, Colts-foot, Maydenhaire, Buglosse, Liverwort, Sinckfoyle, Endive, Longwort-leaves, & Ribwort ana di. M. cut somewhat smal, and boyled till half be con∣sumed, then straine it hard, for they commix

therewith syrup of Vinegar, the syrups of Lemmons and Roses ana iij ʒ, drink there∣of cold at any time, it both cooleth and comforteth very much.

Ague to heale both in old and young, proved.

MAke a quart of posset Ale of Milk and Ale, thn take the young tops of Rosemary, Marigolds, Plantine, and young Bay leaves ana ij ʒ, cut them small, and boyle them in the posset Ale, untill all their strength be forth, and drink a great draught thereof warme a little before the fit com∣meth, and sweat upon it; doe this some iij times, it will cure, being proved on many.

Aromaticum Rosatum which healeth the weaknesse of the stomack, comforteth all parts of the Body, cleanseth corrupt humours in the Breast, comforteth the Braine and Heart, and causeth good digestion.

TAke pure red Roses xv ʒ, Lycorice mundified i ʒ, lignum Aloes, and yellow Sanders ana iij ʒ, Cinamon v ʒ,

Mace & Cloves ij ʒ dj. gum Dragant ij ʒ di. Nutmegs, graines of Paradise and Galingale i ʒ, Spikenard, Amber greese and Musk ana di ʒ, white Sugar as much as sufficeth, and dissolve altogether in syrup of Roses.

Ague Tertian, the Cure.

TAke Burre roots i ʒ, three cornes of long Pepper, stamp the roots and Pep∣per, boyle them in a pinte of Ale with ij ʒ of Triacle till halfe be wasted, drink it warme and sweat two houres.

Ague or Fever hot a Iulyp.

TAke Succory, Endive, Violets & Bo∣rage ana Mj: Fennell-roots pithed iM, Lycorice mundified i ʒ, French Barley ii ʒ, boyle them in a gallon of water to a pottle, and drink thereof, it cooleth much.

Ague Tertian, the Cure.

TAke ix young red Sage-leaves, ix sprigs of Yarrow, three Bay-leaves, three sprigs of Rue, boyle all these in one pinte of posset Ale, to the consumption of a

third part, then straine it hard, let the Pati∣ent drink a good draught thereof very hot before the fit come, and sweat well after it, use this three times.

Ague Tertian, the Cure.

TAke dry Orenge Pills, Nutmeggs, roche Allom ana iiij ʒ, ten Cloves all powdered together, give of this pou∣der to the sick as much as will lye on a shil∣ling, to drink in iij spoonfulls of wine vi∣negar; two houres before the fit commeth; if you take therewith Bezor iij graines, it is the better, then take nine roots of Mayden∣weede for a Man, and six for a Woman, put in a little bagge, and hanged nine dayes about the Patients neck, and six dayes about a Womans neck, then burne the bagge and roots, and let the Patient be purged.

Ache, Griefe, or Paine, an Ʋnguent, the Cure.

TAke Cammomint, Mallowes, Sage, Dill, and Marigold-leaves ana i M, stamp them and boyle them in Malm∣sey and Linseed oyle ana di. pinte, and fresh Butter out of the Churn i lb, let them be wel boyled, strain them, and anoynt therewith.

For any Ague, sore in Knee or Ioynt. for Swelling or Sciatica.

FRy Alehoufe with fresh Butter in a frying-pan, till it be soft, and not too moyst, apply it very hot to the griefe or swelling till it be well, renew it every twenty foure houres.

Ague or Feaver of Phlegme, Diary, or Quotidian.

TAke red Roses, Ivory, Buglos flowers, Coriander, Orenge Pills ana iij ʒ, in∣fuse rhem in Vinegar and white wine ana iij ʒ, of Penides i lb, of Sugar or honey i lb di. Your syrup if the stomack be empty or weake, or the Guts empty, then put in all Wine and no Vinegar: this is an excellent syrup, for either by adding or deminishing Simples here unto, according to the Infir∣mities and nature thereof it may serve for any grosse matter in any cold distemper.

Pills of excellent vertue to purge all Phleg∣maitck Feavers or Agues.

TAke Agarick, Aloes, Acorus, Turbith, ana i ʒ Esula di. Coloquintida i. graine

salt Gem Mastick, Ginger, Wormwood, Let∣tice, Raysons mundified, Bdellium ana iiij ʒ, let syrupe of Roses be made up with these Pills, the Dos is ij ʒ more or lesse, according to the Patients strength, give them after you have used the other syrupe ix dayes to di∣gest it. These be good in any Tertian Ague, if you adde to them this following in any Phlegmatick Fevers or diseases, viz.

Item, Rubarbe ij ʒ, Spiknard dj. ʒ, Dia∣gridij, Mastick ana i ʒ, mixe these with the aforesaid, the Dos is di. ʒ more or lesse as the strength of the Patient is, and the vee∣moneis of the Fever.

The poore mans Cure for this Feaver.

FIrst digest the humour with Oxymell Compostum, then purge with the inner Bark of an Elder an Eg-shell full or lesse, ac∣cording to the Patients stregth in a draught of Wine, posset Ale, or any thing else warm, when he is purged give him Aurea Alexan∣dria with wine wherein Sage hath beene sodden, give it many times.

Ague or Feaver Quartan of Melancholy.

FIrst digest the matter with Oxymell simplex, or with the decoction of Senna Epithimum, and Harts tongue, after that use some Oxymell Diureticum, then purge with Diasena Diaboraginis sharped with Lapis Lazuli, and sometimes purge with Hiera∣ruty, and thus by little and little proceed: Or take Violet flowers, Borage, Sena, Tyme, the juyce of Fumitory and Lycorice, make your Decoction of Whay, infuse there∣in some Elder barke, then adde thereto iij sorts of Myrabolanies ana iiij ʒ, stir∣red together on a soft fire, and after the strayning adde to it Lapis Acivenius ix times quenched in the same Decoction, and i ʒ thereof made in subtill powder, minister this before day.

For the Feaver Quartan.

THis Feaver is cured by giving every morning j ʒ of Calamint fasting with Triacle dj, Myrrh dj, if need be to comfort the stomack, adde thereto some juyce of

Mynts, this given many times together, hath cured many after the body is well purged.

Ague or Feaver Tertian.

THe true Tertian is caused of burnt cho∣ler mixed with other humours, which happeneth most to young people in Sum∣mer time, else it is no true Tertian though it come of red choler, for choler when it is putrified in the veines, causeth a continuall Feaver, if without the veines it maketh a Tertian, if putrified in two places, it maketh a double Tertian: A Tertian beginneth with rigour like the pricking of Needles, and endeth with vaporous sweat.

The Cure.

TAke of Endive, Succory both kinds, ana iiij ʒ, the foure cold seeds ana i ʒ, flow∣ers of Violets, Borage, and water Lillies ana ij ʒ, red Roses iiij ʒ, Sugar i lb, make your Syrup, and digest it with this, then purge as followeth.

First use this Glyster.

℞. Violets, Mercury ana ii M. oyle of Violets ii ℥, boyle and make your Decocti∣on, then straine it: Dissolve therein Cassia Extract, and Tamarinds ana i ʒ, oyle of wa∣ter Lillies ij ℥, make your Glister.

Then a Purge if need require.

℞. Of the digestive syrup aforesaid ii ℥, Rubarb and Agarick ana i ʒ di. the seeds of Endive and Spiknard ana di. Barley water, and Almond Milk ana iij ℥; give this in the morning.

If the Thirst be great in this Feaver, take the foure cold seeds, husk them, boyle them in water with Gum Dragant, stamp them well, and put to them a little vinegar, let the Patient drink thereof in his fit.

Also if you give the Patient the uyce of Plantaine to drink before the fit three seve∣rall times, it cureth all Tertians.

Also the seed of Nettles stamped with Salt and Cobwebs bound to the Wrist, cu∣reth all Tertians.

Feaver which commeth of Blood, the Cure.

FIrst open the Basilica veine, then the Median on the same side or Arme, if you let not blood, provoke the Nose to bleed: Then take Endive, Succory, Mayden-haire, Rosemary, flowers of Politriticum ana iij ʒ, Barley di. lb, of all the cold seeds ana ij ʒ Violets, the flower of Buglosse, Borage and Gillyflowers ana iij ʒ, make your Decocti∣on of iij lb, boyle it till it come to one: Dissolve therein Cassia extract j ʒ, oyle of water Lillies iij ʒ, make your Glyster: Then make a Ptisan of Barly viij ʒ, Lyco∣rice bruised ij ʒ, Borage, Bugloss, and the cold seeds, boyle and straine it, and adde ij ʒ of Vinegar, and drink it.

To purge ℞ Barley water di. lb, dissolve therein Cassia Fistula, Manna and Tama∣rinds ana di. ℥, Vinegar ij ℥, Sugar and Pe∣nedes qd sufficit; give this in the morning, and keepe a good Dyet.

Back weake to comfort.

TAke Knotgrasse strings, Strawberry strings, of Cats-taile, Cinquefoyle strings, wilde Tansey, Shepheards purse, Comfrey ana, boyle these with Knuckles of Veale and marrow of Beefes back, thicken with a little Ryce powdered, and a few Raysins of the Sun stoned, two large Mace blades, eighteene great Cloves, eat it fasting in the morning.

Back weake to restore.

TAke the Pith of the water boughes of an Ash i ʒ, the shells of new laid Eggs powdred i ʒ, Clary, new Balme, white Mints j M, stamp them and strain them, then take yolks of new laid eggs, beat and mixe them with the juyces, and fry it with But∣ter like a Tansie, with the powder, eat of this in the morning fasting, and neither eat nor drink one houre after. Or,

℞. Roses iij ʒ, red Sanders ij ʒ, yellow Sanders i ʒ di. fine Bole ij ʒ, burnt Ivory i ʒ, Camphire i ʒ, Wax i ℥, oyle of Rose buds ij ℥, melt the Oyle and Wax toge∣ther

with the rest, make a Plaister, lay it to the Back, but for want of this Plaister, take oyle of Roses, oyle of Violets, and water Lillies mixt together, and anoynt the back therewith; it cooleth.

Belly or Sides hardnesse, an Ʋnguent.

MIxe together Vng. Dialthaea iij ℥, A∣grippa, oyle of Camomile ana i ℥. make an Vnguent thereof, you may mixe some Aqua-vitae therewith.

Blood to staunch.

HOld Shepheards-purse in your hand, looke on it, or lay it on the wound, if it be a veine that bleedeth, boyle Rue in water, stamp it and lay it theron, then lap it up in Lambs wooll never washed, or take a great Spider, put it in a linnen cloath, prick it with a Pinne, and smell thereto.

Another excellent one.

℞. Sanguis Draconis, Bole Armoniack, Vermillion ana part. aequal. compound

them with the white of Egges, beat to the forme of a Plaister; this applied hath stayed the blood of a Womans breast cut off.

Blood spetting to staunch.

DRink as much powder of Mice dung as will lye on a groat, in a little uyce of Plantaine and Sugar, drink it first and last morning and evening till you bee well.

Blood-Pissing to stay.

BOyle Spearemints, Bettony, Rue, Bur∣sa pastoris, and Knot-grasse in Goats milk, or other milk, drink of it three dayes first and last.

Black and blew in the face by a blow.

TAke Paper foure double, wet it well in cold water, and lay it to the Bruise.

Blood bruised to avoid.

BOyle Nep bruised in Wine or Ale, drink it warme nine mornings together, it cureth.

Breast swolne to ripe, breake, and heale.

BOyle Hollyhocks, Mallowes, ana ij M. in water, then straine them thorow a cloath the water out, then scrape red Clay from the Wall six spoonfulls, and ten spoon∣fulls of wine vinegar with a little Hoggs grease, boyle them with the hearbs all to∣gether to a Poultis, apply it very warme, use it till you are well.

Breast sore to breake.

BOyle Fenegreeke seed, and Linseed powdred ana ij ʒ, Figgs small cut, ten house Snayles, Lilly roots bruised ana ij ʒ, boyle them all together in strong Ale to a Poultis, lay it on as hot as shee can suffer it; so use it till she be well.

Bruise to cure and helpe.

STamp Solomons seale greene, and apply it to the griefe; Parsley fryed with But∣ter soft and applyed doth the like. Egrimo∣ny stamped small, and rowled up in round balls, then lay it in some place till it be mouldy, then fry it with Hoggs grease or May Butter till it be a greene Salve, so use it on rotten Apples, with a spoonfull of Ryce boyled in Milk to a Poultis, doth the like.

Burning or Scalding, the Cure.

TAke Sallet oyle well beaten in faire water, therewith anoynt the griefe for three dayes, this taketh out the fire. Item, then take the inner bark of Elder, Harts-tongue, and House-leeke ana iiij ʒ, Sheepes trickles i M, Sheepe-sewet iiij ʒ, boyle them together to a good thicknesse, and put thereto Wax i ʒ, then straine it, and plaister-wise apply it to the griefe till it be whole without scarre.

Item, take the fat of Bacon in slyces, lay it in water two houres, then take it out, and

dry it with a cloath, and with a Needle and a twisted thred stitch it together with a Bay leafe, betweene every slice two Bay leaves, rost it at the fire, turning the throd in your hand, set under it a Platter with some faire water, therein to receive the dropping, let it not burne in the rosting, an∣noynt the griefe with the dripping.

Another for the same.

TAke oyle of Roses ij ʒ, Creame iiij ʒ, Honey i ʒ mixed, and make an oynt∣ment, therewith anoynt the griefe.

An Iniectivement or Lotion.

BOyle in white wine Centory, Knot∣grasse, wilde Tansie, Yarrow ana di. M. honey i ℥, Allom powdred ii ʒ, inject this.

Bruises, a Plaister.

TAke Virgine Wax viij ℥, Galbanum Colat, honey ana iiij ʒ, Sheeps Tallow viij ℥ shred small, and boyled in a little white wine or vinegar, adde thereto Fran∣kincense and Mastick ana iiij ʒ in powder,

let it boyle till all be melted plaister-wise, apply it on the griefe as hot as you can suffer it, till you be well.

Breasts to clense of Phlegme.

TAke white Wine, and water ana one pinte, Wine-vinegar tenne spoonfulls, English honey clarified with whites of Egs vi ℥, Fennell and Parsley roots, and Lyco∣rice all mundified, and then sliced ana ij ℥, Enula Campana powdred ij ʒ, Egrimony i ℥ di. Figs cut in pieces twelve, Annis and Cummin-seed, Hysope, Tyme, and Penyryal ana i ℥ di. boyle all these close covered suf∣ficiently, then straine it, drink thereof first and last till you be well.

Braine and Back to purge.

MAke a Dos of Pills of Bettony pow∣der, and English honey, take two Pills thereof as bigge as a small Nut when you goe to bed, this will manifest it selfe next morning in the Chamber-pot.

Breath stinking, the Cure.

BOyle in a pottle of white Wine, the tops of Rosemary i M, Anniseed bruised i ʒ, Wormwood three sprigs, Sassafras, O∣renge pills bruised, Cloves and Cynamon bruised ana i ʒ, Cummin-seed bruised i ℥, let all these boyle to the consumption of one pinte, drink thereof morning and evening a good draught warme in the morning, colde at night.

TAke the juyce of Lycorice mundified ij ℥, boyle it in Hysop water to a good hight, then work it up in your hands with some oyle of Anniseed, and some Gum Ara∣bick, with three graines of Musk incorpo∣rate altogether; make Lozenges thereof, dis∣solve one at once in your mouth.

Bones broken and Set, a Plaister to ease Paine.

TAke the fresh dung of a Sheepe two parts, Barly meale one part, so much of the white of Eggs beaten well, com∣pound a Plaister, put therein a little Bole∣armoniack, lay it about the bone, remove it not in ten dayes.

Blood to staunch at Nose, or in a wound.

TAke the greatest Toad you can find, and hang it up alive, and so let him hang

all Summer, till he be as dry as a Stockfish, so keepe him, let the party bleeding smell to him, being wrap'd up in a thinne linnen cloath, it stauncheth the blood.

To skale a mortified black Bone.

TAke honey of Roses, dip Spledgets therein, lay them hot on the bone un∣till it doth loosen, dresse it every night for three nights, if it then loosen not by the sides in feeling, then apply this Oynt∣ment.

Take pure Hogs grease di. lb, Argentum Vivum ij ℥ well mortified, and well brayed together, warme the Vnguent in a Sawcer, with a feather anoynt the bone evening and morning, and lay thereon Lint, and rowle it up just, let him keepe his bed, and take no cold, and shortly the Bone will rise, then heale it up as need requireth.

Brulse or Bruises to Cure.

POure out the white of an Egg, then fill the Egg up with Parmacitty, rost it soft, then sup it up, and fast three houres af∣ter, use it till you be well.

TAke the seed of white Poppy, Mal∣lowes, Quinces, and Pursleyne all pow∣dred, take also Mirtell, Gum Arabick, Gum Dragant, Pine kernells, Sugar, Lycorice, Pe∣nedes, Psiloum musilage, of Almonds ana iiij ℥, of fine Bole sanguis Draconis, red Ro∣ses, Spodij, Myrrhe ana i ʒ, mix them with Hydromell, and make it in Trochis; they wil last kept in a box in a warme dry place seaven yeares, the Dosse is i ʒ given in milk.

Burning or Scalding an approved at Medicine.

TAke the inner Bark of Elder, the leaves of Alexander, and the leaves of Daysies, boyle them in Hogs grease, then strain them well, and anoynt the Griefe with a feather, and cover it with a red Colwort lease, and it will be whole on warrantice.

Back Paines, the Cure.

MIx the juyce of Selandine with Goats dung powdred, and plaister it on, it killeth the Canker any where.

A plaister made of Pepper, Bay-salt, the kemell of Walnuts beaten together healeth also.

Canker to extirpate and take out.

INcorporate the powder of Realgor with fresh Hogs grease, spread it on lea∣ther fit for the Sore, strew thereon all-over the flower of Wheat somewhat thick, and upon that honey thick, and lastly over that Womans milk, then lay the plaister on the Sore, and lay on the plaister the bottome of a new baked Loafe of white bread, binde all fast on all night, on the morrow the Canker

TAke the oldest Oyster-shell you can finde in a dunghill (that shine most, are best) powder them, then set three spoonfulls of white wine Vinegar over the coales, put therein as much of the Oyster∣shell powder as will thicken the Vinegar, adde thereto some Allom powder, then binde a linnen cloath about a stick and dip therein, rub the Sore therewith till it bleed, doe this three times therewith, it will be well.

Canker in the Body to Cure.

TAke the powder of the roots of Dra∣gons i ʒ, lay it all night in water, on the morrow put out the water, then put there∣to a quarter of a pinte of white Wine, boyle it well, let the Patient drink it warme three mornings together, it helpeth.

Canker or sore Eyes.

TAke Dovefoot, Archangell, Ivy with the berries, yong Bramble tops, white Rose leaves, red Sage, Sellandine, and

Woodbine leaves ana i M. cut small, then put thereto powder of Allom i ℥, white wine and clarified honey ana one quart: A∣loes, Epatick iiij ʒ, distill all these in a Lymbeck together, the water thereof will kill any Canker, two drops put in the eye with Fennel water, taketh away any Pearle or filthinesse.

Consumption, the Cure.

TAke sixe Cock Sparrowes, and two Wagtailes well dressed, Harts-horne and Ivory ana ij ʒ, powdred China roots thinne slyced iiij ʒ in two quarts of Spring∣water, Rose water one quart, white Wine one quart; Infuse them in a Pipkin close covered one night in the hot Embers, that the water may keep but warme, then boyle three spoonfulls of French Barley in three severall waters; then take Egrimony and Sorrell di. M. Borage, Buglosse, di M. Fen∣nell two roots picked and slyced, the bot∣tome of a white Loafe steeped in Malmsey all night, three large Mace, Raysins of the Sunne stoned iii ℥, six Cloves bruised, halfe a Cock, sixe Knuckles of Veale, red Sanders i ℥, Sage and Rosemary ana i M. sixe Cap∣dates

stoned and cut, let all these boyle close stopped one houre, then put therein sixe Pearmaine Apples pared and slyced, let all these boyle till it come to a Mash, that there remaine but five pintes, then straine it, drink of this warme, first and at five of the clock in the afternoone, this will comfort much, if it be too thick liquifie it with wine

Consumption a noted Cure.

TAke a quarter of a pound of lordan Al∣monds blanched and beat small, adding thereto in the beating some Rosewater, one or two spoonfulls, then take the thigh of a rosted Capon, flea off the skinne, beat it in a Morter alone, then take foureteene Dates stoned, skinned and picked, beat them alone, then put them all in a pinte of Rosewater, boyle them three walmes with some Su∣gar, then take Cinnamon ij ʒ, Lignum A∣loes both powdred i ʒ, put them in your Decoction, stirre them well together, then put it up in some Glasse, take the quantity of a Wallnut at once in the morning, the first three mornings adde to it every time Bezoar two graines.

A Dyet drink for the Consumption.

THe first weeke in May infuse in your usuall drink Succory, Devils-bit, Sca∣bius, Water-Cresses, Lungwort, Polypodie, Coltfoot, Penyryall, and Liverwort ana ij M. bruised, and put in a thin linnen cloath bagge, and so put in your drink when it is new tunned to work therein; drink no other drink for foureteene dayes.

Cough of the Lungs to Cure.

TAke greene Box dried, and powdred fine, take so much at once as will lie on a groat, in a draught of warme white wine first and last till you be well, which will be when you see your selfe voyd blood, then leave your Medicine for you are well. Pro∣batum est.

Cough of very hard Phlegme to cure.

BOyle two quarts of Cream, halfe a pint of honey, and di. pinte of Linseed oyle till it come to an oyly substance, dip therein a red thick woollen cloath, wring it hard, and lay it on the Region of the Stomack as hot as you can suffer it, then cover it warme

Cold hoarcenesse to cause to speake cleare presently.

TAke a Porsnet of scalding water, put therein two Handker chiefes viij times double folded, wring out the water, hold it to thy Nose and Mouth till it be cold, then put that in the hot water, and take out the other & so one after another till you be wel.

Cough very old to Cure.

TAke Diatra gaganti frigidum diapendij, suis specibus ana i ℥, the Liver of a Fox powdred i ʒ di. Lycorice and May denhaire ijd. all powdred together, take them mixed in the syrup of Mirtles as an Electuary on the point of a knife as oft as you see cause.

Consumpsion a Medicine.

TAke good Malmsey a pottle, put there∣in as much crums of Manchet hot out of the Oven as will suck up all the Wine, adde thereto of Cinnamon powdred iiij ʒ, tenne

TAke Gum Hederae, warme it that it may spread on a peece of Scarlet the breadth of a shilling or broader, apply it hot to the Navill; your best Gum is sweet, cleare, and soft.

TAke Malmsey one quart, roots of Mal∣lowes, & Fennel pithed, Lycorice mun∣dified, Anniseed bruised ana ij ℥, Colts foot, Long wort, Violet-leaves, Hysop, red Sage, Raysins of the Sunne stoned, Figgs shred, white Sugarcandy ana iiij ℥, boyle all these in a Pipkin close covered to halfe, then straine them out hard, adde thereto white Sugar iiij ℥, of the roots of Ireos, Floren∣tine ii ʒ, let it boyle one walme more, then straine it, and take of this first in the mor∣ning, fast two houres after, and last to bed∣ward,

TAke Seahorse Pizell, Hartshorne, and Enula Campana, ana i ʒ fine powdred, take so much of this as will lie on a shil∣ling in Anniseed-water fasting, or as you need.

Chollick and Stone, the Cure.

TAke a pottle of white Wine in a Pip∣kin, put two faire flint stones in the fire till they be red-hot, quench them one after another twenty times in the Wine, then put

therin Speare-Mints, Polypody of the Oak, Hysop, Sage, and Rosemary ana i M. boyle them a good while, then strain it, and put it in a Viall close stopped: In the morning fasting drink a draught with these powders, Parsly, Fennell, and Carroway seeds, Phily-pendula, Saxafrage roots, Grommel, Brome, and Alexander seeds; the kernel of Cherry∣stones dried, the round bones of the Thorn∣back all powdred together ana iiij ʒ, drink of this powder every morning in your wine one spoonfull, fast two houres after, and last at night, take this syrup, of Spiknard, of Iu∣niper berries, of Grashoppers the head and feet cut off powdred ana ij ʒ; compound them together, and drink ij ʒ in a little warme white Wine.

Collick the Cure.

EAt fasting every morning hot Broaths made of Alexanders, and drink the com∣pound water of them, & Aqua-vitae ana ij ℥.

Also drink the powder of Iuniper ber∣ries in Alexander water and stale Ale ana; warme is good. Also S. Iohns wort small chopped, and put thereto Pidgeons dung, a good quantity of honey, fry them in fresh Butter, and very warm bind, it to the navil.

Cramp, the Cure.

TAke Brimstone and Verveyne, binde it to the Pulse, and be ever freed.

Cods swelling to Cure.

TAke Rue, Bay leaves, Purslay, Beane meale, Fengreeke and Linseed ana ii ℥, boyle it in new Cream, with a spoonfull of Hoggs grease to a Poultis, so apply it: Or take Rye Leaven, mingle it with strong Lie and apply it; this helpeth.

Camphire Water to heale.

TAke Camphire prepared with the white of an Egg, infuse it in Fumitory water, mix them well together, use it to coole, heale, and skin.

Cornes in the Toes to Cure.

TAke Marigold leaves, Hearbgrasse, and the broadest Plantaine ana i M. stamp them in a Morter, then put them in a close stopped Pot, with ten spoonfulls of water, so let it stand twelve dayes till it stink, then straine out the liquor, with it anoynt the Cornes, and wet a double cloath therein, and lay it on them till they be well, so use it.

Carbunckles to ripen and breake.

POwder Bay-salt small, mingle it with the yolk of an Egge, and lay it on the sore; it heales.

Cankers inward or outward to cure.

ROst Sorrell clensed of the stalks and strings, take onely the pure leafe in a wet browne paper in the Embers when it is soft, mix therewith halfe so much honey, as much Wheat flower, and as much burnt Allom, compound all these together in a Morter to a plaister, apply it to the Griefe cold, if the Griefe be inward Minister three Pills thereof morning and evening; wash the Sore with a Lotion made of Plantaine water, burnt Allom, and so much calcined Vitriall as will make it blood-red.

Cramp in Arme or Legge; the Cure.

TAke great Onions, roast them, make a Plaister thereof, and lay it warme about the joynt as hot as he can suffer it, dresse it three times, and cured.

Canker or Pock in any part of the Body to Cure.

MIx the fine powder of Mercury with the powder of Bole, mix it so that the colour be very pale, this killeth either of these griefes.

TAke oyle of Castor ij ℥, oyle of Roset, and oyle of bitter Almonds ana i ℥, Aqua-vitae ij ℥, mix all together, and boyle it till the Aqua-vitae be consumed, then every night to Bedwards drop foure drops one after another in the Eare, stop it with Cotten that smelleth of Musk.

TAke a spoonefull of the liquor that fries out of a greene Ashen bough burning in the fire, and the oyle of a silver Eele ana, of the Gall of a Hare, and black bony ana, one spoonfull of Singreene, boyle them all together, and drop a little in your Eare, as need requireth.

Dropsie, a Purgation for it.

TAke Mechoacan, Sugar, Diagrediij, Ru∣barb, Sena, Spiknard ana i o, Anniseed j ℈, Cinnamon, Mastick, Ginger ana i ℈, let all these be fine powdred, the Dosse is i ʒ in white wine or Posset Ale three dayes toge∣ther. Then take Hysop, Violets, Rosemary, Vervine, Bettony, St. Johns Woort, Mouse∣eare, Plantaine, Avence, Sage, Fetherfew ana i M. wash them cleane, then dry them, and bruife them in a Morter, then put it in a new glassed Pipkin, put to it one gallon of white wine, so let it stand all night close stopped, and on the morrow seeth it to one Pottle, then straine it thorow a haire Sive, and put it up close, then drink it first and last

TAke Iuniper thinne shaved, and the ber∣ries bruised, Ash Bark, Sassafras roots, Wall wort roots, Caper roots, Camock roots, Marsh Mallow roots ana i M. Parsly roots, Eringo roots, Fennel roots all bruised ana ij ℥, Parsly and Fennell seeds bruised ana ij ℥, put all these in a Pipkin close covered, put upon them as much scalding water as will cover them, then put it up, and paste it close, so let it stand in hot Embers and not boyle xxiiij houres, then put all these in a Ferkin of new Ale of seaven gallons, so let it work together till the Ale be stale, drink no other drink during the cure, drink this at all times.

TAke the white of two Egs well brayed, put thereto Wheat flower, powder of Bole-armoniack, and powder of Sanguis Draconis, mix all these well together, and apply it as before, this stayeth & repercusseth all humors, if any heat happen in the wound, then adde thereto Vinegar, Rosewater, and Singreene, or Plantaine juyce, this will dis∣solve all Inflammations or heat quickly.

A Defensive for greene Wounds.

TAke oyle of Roses, Bole-armoniack ana ij ℥, Terra sigillata, and Vinegar ana i ℥, Camphire ij.d. Nightshade, and Singreene ana i M. beat the hearbs, straine the juyces, mix all together cold, so apply it, if it be too thinne thicken it with Barly meale.

SPread the white of a new layd Egge on a red Colewort leafe when you goe to bed, plaister the eyes therewith; or the gall of a Partridge, or the gall of a Turtle put into the eyes, helpeth the dimnesse.

Eyes that seeme blinde, the Cure.

TAke Smallage, red Fennell, Rew, Ver∣vine, Egrimony, Bettony, Sage, Sink-foyle, Pimpernell, Eufrage, Celendine, ana j M. wash them, & stamp thē wel, put them in some vessell; take powder of xv pepper cornes well searced, one pint of wine, three spoonfulls of boyes urine that is very young, boyle them together till the juyce of the hearbs bee in the wine, then straine it out hard, and put it in a Vyall close stopped, and with a feather drop it in the eyes cold for fifteene dayes; during the Cure, drink Beere wherein is infused over night (to drink next morning) Tormentill and Penny-grasse.

TAke Verdigrease iiij ʒ, powdred Al∣lom ij ʒ, Vinegar vj ʒ, Honey j ℥, boyle all these till it be red, this clenseth and sicca∣triceth old sores.

Emrods, the Cure.

TAke two Handkerchiefes viij double, put them on a Chafing dish of coales in a dish of white wine, ready to boyle, or seething hot, then wring out one of them hard, and lay it on the griefe as hot as hee can suffer it, let it so lie till it waxeth cold, then put that in the dish, and so doe one af∣ter another; for halfe an houre at once, use this till it be well, which will be some three times; during the Cure some drink Milk-foyle in white wine, with the powder of Egshells whence Chickens were hatched.

Emrods, or any other Swelling in the place.

TAke Scabius and Mulline, stamp them with fresh Butter and Hogs grease, and

Or take the powder of burn'd Anni∣seeds, Honey, and Saffron, make a plaister thereof, and lay it to the griefe, every dres∣sing wash it with white wine wherein Sca∣bius hath boyled.

Emrods to Cure.

1 TAke the juyce of the root of the great Burre, boyle it, and bathe the Emrods therewith very hot, then presently strew thereon the powder of red Arch∣angell.

2 Or take the powders of Lovage and Rew mixed with Honey, make a plaister thereof and use it.

3 Also boyle the leaves of Mercury ve∣ry tender, apply it thereto as a Poultis very hot, dresse it twice a day and be whole.

4. If they bleed or water much, cast on them the fine powder of Letharge of gold, it drieth them.

5 Or stamp unset Leeks small, put there∣to honey and flower, lay it on warme.

6 Or stamp in a dish of the best Sope with some garden Snailes without shells,

1 THe smell of Marjorum is good to preserve the sight, to drinke Ey∣bright in Ale, Beere, or Wine, with the juyce of Fennell, is very good, and nothing better; the powder of Ey∣bright in a reare Egge, or in any thing else is also good: Good Spectacles much helpeth: Cinnamon, Cloves, Nutmeggs, Mace, and Pepper, are all good. Also the water of Eybright, Fennell, Marigold, Perlewort, or any of these put into the eyes, cureth.

2 Item, Vervine gathered young in May, put in a Vyall close stopped, and so let it stand till it putrifie, and a juyce sinking to the bottome of the Glasse, wherewith drop it into your eyes, it helpeth all blind∣nesse in man or beast.

3 Item, in Aprill gather the finest Fen∣nell, put it into a Glasse with a long nar∣row neck some fifteene dayes, then take the

glasse softly for troubling it, powre out the clearest thereof to another glasse to every dj lb thereof, put j ℥ of Lignum Aloes fine powdred, and let it so stand fifteene dayes more, then straine it twice to cleare it out, of this drop a little in your eyes, it much cleareth the sight.

4 Item, Lignum Aloes distilled in a Stil∣latory of Glasse, the water of it put in your eyes, it cleareth the sight miraculously.

5 Item, j ʒ of the distilled water of Rosemary flowers, with ij d. of the powder of Salt Gem dissolved therein, and dropped in the eyes, cureth the sight, and drieth all moysture from thence.

6 Item. the urine of a Childe, or the Lie made of Ashes of Fennell stalks, either of them dropped in the eyes, mends the sight.

Inner medicine to cleare the Eyes.

1 TAke the powder of Eybright iiij ℥, Mace j ʒ, mix them together, and take the waight of iij d. thereof in Fennell water in the morning, fasting three houres after.

Eyes that have Pearles, a medicine.

TAke Dazies and the roots, red Fennell, & Alchoofe, stamp them together, take the juyces of them, and drop two or three in the contrary Eare warme, on that side the griefe is not, till the Pearle fall off, use this every day morning and evening.

Eyes that have Pearle or Web.

1 TAke the white of two new layd Egges very hard boyld, the shells and yolk being taken away, put the white in a Morter with j d. of fine powder of Cop∣peras, pound them together, then put to it two small spoonfulls of Rose water, then straine it hard thorow a linen cloath into a Glasse, let it settle with the clearest water thereof, drop it in the eyes with a feather.

2 Or take the white of two egges, very hard sodden, white Sugarcandy j ʒ, white Copperas j ℈, both fine powdred, white Rosewater one spoonfull, stamp the egge, Sugarcandy and Copperas together, then put the Rosewater thereto, straine it hard into a Glasse, drop thereof three times a day into your eyes.

Another.

3 TAke all the head of a black Cat bur∣ned to Ashes, blow some of that powder with a quill thrice a day into the eye if the paine be great, especially in the night, lay thereon some Oaken leaves dou∣bled together, and wet in Rosewater on the eye, renew them as need requireth, it cureth.

Another rare secret for the same.

4 TAke nine Wormes, you shall finde them in old hollow timber with many legs, called Hogs or Swines Lice, if you touch them they will be round, stamp them with the juyce of Celendine or Beto∣nie, then straine them well, let the Patient

drink it fasting warme, not eating in two houres after, use this three mornings toge∣ther, it will cure.

Or this.

TAke the white of an egge, and the juyce of Pelitory of the wall beaten together and scummed, one drop of that liquor in the eye cureth, Probatum est.

For the eyes, The vertue of Tormentill.

BOyle the hearb Tormentill and roots in white wine, till the third part be spent, let the blind drink of this Potion nine dayes together, a draught in the morning cold, and at night blood-warm, and within that time (God willing) he will recover: if the eye be hurt, boyle this hearb stamp'd in white wine and a little water, binde or plaister it to the sore eyes. If you infuse a good quan∣tity of this hearb in a small vessell full of wine, and no other drink daily, it will re∣cover sight though long blinde.

1 TAke the juyces of Rew, Fennell, Ce∣lendine, and Eybright ana ij ʒ, ho∣ney j ʒ dj. Aloes tutiae, and Sarcocollae ana iiij ʒ, the Gall ofa Capon or a Cock ij ʒ, di∣still all these in a Limbeck of Glasse, drop this water cold into the sore Eyes once a day three drops together, and use it till hee be well.

2 Or take the waters of Roses, Vervine and Fennell ana iiij ℥, strong white wine iij ℥, Tutia prepared, and Sugarcandy ana iij ʒ, Aloes hepatick ij ʒ, powder fine all the simples that is to be powdred, mix them with the waters and wine, let it so stand covered one whole day, then straine the li∣quor easily in a faire Glasse, and use to drop three drops at once in the eye.

Eyes to Cure all griefes.

TAke iij ℥ of unslak'd Lyme, infuse it in d j. lb of raine water in a Glasse vessell three dayes, then stirre and mix them well together, let them settle againe foure and

twenty houres after, powre out the cleare water very cleane, then put thereto x ʒ of Salarmoniack the whitest you can get, very nely powdred, let it therein dissolve by ong standing and oft shaking; then let it settle, and powre the clearest water off it, or filter it away by Distillation, drop three drops of this in the Eye at once, and so con∣tinue it three times every day till it be wel; this cureth Spot, Pearle, Web, or any thing else in the Eye, be it Canker or Burning.

MAke two Plaisters as you doe of Mastick, of Sanguis Draconis, spread it with a hot knife, and lay them to the Temple veines.

Falling sicknesse or Epilepsia the Cure.

FIrst every full and change of the Moone, Purge one day, and Vomit another, then kill a Jay, and dresse him, fill his body full of Cummin and Anniseeds bruised, then put the Jay so-dressed in an Oven after bread is drawne, untill hee be so dry that you may

Feaver to prevent, or all other diseaeses by this cooling Cordiall.

TAke Liquorice mundified j ℥, Carro∣way seed, and Cardimonium ana dj ℥, Hyssop, and Carduus Benedictus ana dj M. of Galingale ij ʒ, bruise your drugs, and binde your hearbs in a bundle, boyle them all in a gallon of water close covered, till one pint bee consumed, then let it so stand till you strain it six houres, then let the Liquorice and Cardimonium remain still in your strai∣ned drink; take thereof morning and even∣ing at your pleasure, this worketh mervai∣lously in preserving strength.

Flux of blood to stop and Cure.

TAke the round mossie Bur that grow∣eth on the Briar that is the wilde Rose, dry it, and powder it, drink thereof in red or Claret wine morning and evening first and last.

TAke Marmalet of Quinces ij ℥, Corall, Cinnamon, Amber, Shepherds purse Al∣chenet, Acatia ana ij ʒ powdred and sear∣sed, mix them together to a Masse for Pills take foure of these Pills morning and even∣ing first and last.

Fistula, the whole Cure.

FIrst, purge the humour offending, then take the Soles of old Shooes dried, burne them in a cleane hearth with Oaken wood to a bright coale, then lay it where it may consume to Ashes alone, then adde to the waight of the ashes, so much greene Cop∣peras fine powdred, as the Ashes of the Sole waigheth, and halfe so much waight of the powder of burned Allom as the Cop∣peras waigheth, and halfe so much of the powder of golden Seacoale as of the burn'd Allom, then grinde all these together on a Painters Stone, or in a Morter to fine subtle powder, so put it close up till you use it ei∣ther for Fistula or old sore: when you are

to use it, take the Creame of the morning milke of one Cow, set it by it selfe all night and one day, the next day cast away the greenish water in the bottome of that Creame, then lay a spoonfull of the Creame on a Trencher, then mix so much of the powders therwith as wil make the Creame black and thick, then make your Tents of one inch long and no longer, if the Fistula be never so deepe, and role the Tents well in the medicine, and tent the Fistula there∣with two times a day, & it wil work out in small pushes, wheales from the bottome, cover the Sore with a red Colewort leafe, when it is well digested, heale it up with plaisters fit for it.

A vulnary Potion for the Fistula.

BOyle in a quart of Springwater, Cloves bruised, Pimpernell, Egrimony, red Colewort, Valerian, Mouseare, Doefoot, and wilde Tanzie ana j M. washed and chopped, boyled all in a Pipkin close co∣vered till halfe bee wasted, then put to it two spoonfulls of honey, and one quart of white wine, then let it boyle two walmes, and straine it hard forth, keepe it in a close

TAke Bolearmoniack iiij ℥, Camphire j ℥, white Vitriol iiij ℥ all powdred, boyle the Copperas and Camphire in a close stopped Pipkin till they be melted, still stir∣ring them till they grow hard, then pow∣der them and the Bolearmoniack together very fine, then put the powders up in a strong bladder, when you use it, take a

TAke Hempseed, Southernwood, Fen∣nell, Parsly, Strawberry leaves and strings, Ribwort, Tanzie, Smallage, Garden madder, red Colewort leaves ana j M. Nut∣megs powdred j ℥, boyle all these in three pints of water, then straine it, adde thereto

honey iiij spoonfulls, therewith bathe the Fistula thrice a day, at every dressing let the Patient drink of this Potion iiij spoon∣fulls warme; if the Fistula be deepe use a Seringe, and wet a red Coleleafe and lay thereon, you need not tent it; let the Patient sometime with his Potion drinke Triacle diatessaron j ʒ, in a morning in his bed very hot, and sweat two houres after it. If humours flow much, purge once in ten dayes, Also keepe the Orifice open with Gentian tents that it close not; Also after that make tents of linnen washed in a Buck and not in Sope, scrape lint of them, for tents wet them in fasting spettle, then let them dry, and dip them in the Creames and powder before set downe.

Fistula or sore mouth, a Lotion.

TAke Guiacum iiij ℥, Plantine, small Cranes bill, Comfrey, Knotgrasse, Shep∣heards purse, Woodbine, and Briar leaves ana j M, boyle all these in three pintes of Smiths water till halfe be consumed, strain it in the liquor, and mix it well, keepe it to your use, if you will have it stronger, put thereto as much burn'd Allom as two Nut∣megs, use it alwayes warme.

Face heat, the Cure.

1 FIrst, purge with Pillule aggregative j ʒ, then take Camphire j ʒ, prepared Cinnamon ij ʒ, Brimstone, Ceruse, and Ma∣stick ana ij ℈ all fine powdred, and wrought up with oyle of white Roses to a Cerote, anoynt your face with a bigge Pill made thereof as bigge as a Chesnut, ten nights together to bedward, in the morning wipe it hard with a dry linnen cloath, but wash it not all the ten dayes, then wash it foure mornings together with juyce of Lemmons and Buttermilk, the Lemmors sliced therein.

2 Also if you quilt bay salt fine powdred in a paire of linnen Socks, and weare it un∣der your feet, it helpeth much, Abstain from salt meats, Spices, meat browne rosted or fried, wine, strong drink, Onions, Garlike, or Mustard, use in your Broaths Purslaine, Sorrell, and Violets, and all other coole hearbs.

3 Or take a quart of sweet Creame, smal Ferne roots j M. cleansed and bruised very small, boyle them in the Creame till it come to a Salve, anoynt the face.

TAke powder of the Mistletoe of the Oake, single Piony roots, the powder of Mans scull dried hard in the fire ana j ʒ, Balm ij ʒ, Sage flowers, Rosemary flowers, Marigold flowers ana ij ℈, flowers of the line tree Lillies of the valley ana iij ʒ, pow∣der all these, and searse them, take iiij ʒ of this powder in the warme Julip following every morning fasting: Take Cowslip water

Also take this syrup a day as occasion serveth, roots of Piony, Mistell of the Oake ana iiij ʒ, Cinnamon vj ʒ, Marigold flowers, Lilly of the valley, and Lavander flowers ana M. red Rose leaves ij M. all grosse bruised, and put in a vessell with a narrow mouth, put there∣to so much Aqua-vitae as will cover them foure fingers over, then stop it close, and put it in a balneo for foure dayes, till it be red in colour, then straine it thorow an Hipo∣grasse bagge, then put to it Sugarcandy powdred dj. lb, mix it well together, then put fire to it in the pot as you burne Sack, and so let it burne to a syrup, then put out out the fire, so take it; if he have any griefe in the head, let him weare a Cap as fol∣loweth.

Take Marjorum, Bettony, Balme, Rose∣mary, Stoechados ana dj M. red Rose leaves, the rinde of Citron ana iij ʒ, Cloves, Mace, Nutmegs, Cubbes, flowers of line tree ana iiij ʒ, all grosse powdred, and quilted with Cotton bombasse, covered with Taffaty or Holland, make it in forme of a Cap, and weare it on your head.

POwder the liver of a Hare being well dried, drink of that powder in your usu∣all drink, but better in an Allom Posset-Ale, so much as will lie on a nine pence first and last, morning and evening, probatum est by a Gentlewoman much grieved with this In∣firmity, and cured herewith.

  • 1 MAke an Allom Posset, boyled in milk, drink of it first and last, it cures.

  • 2 Or the powder of Euphorbium and Mastick ana mixed, boyle them in white Sope, when it cooleth make tents thereof, it consumeth all moystures.
Flesh to fret or eat away.

THe powder of Euphorbium will fret away flesh layd thereto.

For Fractures or Bruises, a Searecloath.

TAke Rozine and Wax ana iiij ℥, Pero∣sen ij ℥, oyle iiij ℥, melt them hot toge∣ther,

A strong Powder for Fistula or old Sores, apply it with Tents or otherwise.

TAke Auripigmentum, Verdigrease, gals, Salt Gem, salt Armoniack, Harts horne burn'd and powdred, the bones of a Hare burn'd, Mans dung burn'd, Egshells, Oyster∣shells, Muscleshels, all burn'd, Sanguis dra∣conis, Tartar, Letharge of gold, the shells of a water Crab burn'd, unslaked Lyme, Pepper white and black, Ginger, Frankin∣cense, Glasse, Mastick, and an old Shooe all burn'd, and fine powdred ana, then adde thereto the powder of burnt Allom, as much as of all the rest in weight, mix all well to∣gether, and apply it as before.

Fire wilde, or St. Anthonies fire.

TAke the Lees of Claret or white wine, and the dreggs of Vinegar, the whites and yolks of egges well brayed and mixed together, and lay it to the griefe.

BOyle one quart of Spring water, Rose∣mary, Sage, Dazies, Dovefoote, wilde Tanzie, Egrimony, and Plantine ana j M, bruised Allom as much as a Walnut, white wine Vinegar ten spoonefulls, English ho∣ney foure spoonefulls, then straine it hard, and put to the liquor so much powder of burn'd Vitrioll as will colour it like bloud, use this with Seringe or Lotion.

For the Fistula a Potion used by the Ancients.

TAke Barly mundified, and the leaves of Celendine ana j ℥, Centory, Egrimony, and Plantine ana ij ℥, Aristolochia longa iiij ʒ, the leaves of Olive, and Dropwort ana ij ℥, cut them all, then pound them, and boyle them in white Wine with Sugar, drinke a draught of this Decoction every morning fasting one houre after.

TAke the bloud, livers, and hearts of Moales dried and powdred, give j ʒ of this powder in Piony water, in the mor∣ning, fasting two houres after, use it sixe mornings.

MIx the powder of Hermodactills with French Sope, make a Tent.

Flesh dead to fret away.

LAy the powder of Hermodactills on the Sore, it will cleanse it.

The best Potion in the world to Cure the Fistula.

TAke twelve Cloves bruised, Pimper∣nell, Egrimony, Valerian, red Cole∣wort, Mouseare, wilde Tanzie, Dovefoote, Strawberries, Plantine, red Madder, and sharp Dock ana j M, bruise all these in a stone Morter, boyle them in two quarts of

Spring water sufficiently, then straine it ard out, put the liquor to the fire againe, dde thereto one quart of white Wine, ho∣ey vj ℥, let the Patient drink thereof mor∣ning and evening first and last foy foureteen ayes; this drink is of an incredible effica∣cie, for it cleareth all corruption from the fistula in thirteene dayes, and broken bones. If the Patient vomit up this Potion three dayes together at the first taking hereof, his Cure is to be doubted; if he vomit not, no doubt of his health, in drinking thereof, put Ginger thereto to allay the winde of the hearbs.

For a Trush in a sucking Childs mouth, or any sore.

MAke a hole in the crowne of a new laid egge, & take out all the meat, fill the shell with Honey & burn'd Allom mixed, let it boyle on the fire, still stirring it with a Bodkin, then take it out, and dresse the sore.

Foule festred Sores and Cankers.

TAke Ink, Auripigmentum, quick Brim∣stone, Salt Gem ana, dissolve them all

in Vinegar, and put them in an unglassed Pipkin, and close it well that the fume goe not forth, and burne it therein till all come to ashes, then powder it, and wash the powder in Vinegar, or infuse it in Vinegar that is warme, and put thereof presently on the Sore, as soone as it is quenched in the Vinegar, then lay this oyntment following thereon, viz. red Lead, the fat of a Goat, fi∣lings of Copper, mix them, and make an Vnguent thereof.

For fretting Sores, a Cure.

TAke oyle of Radish roots & Salt, bray them together, and plai ster them on.

Flesh superfluous in wounds, or proud flesh.

LAy on the flesh the powder of Assa fae∣tida, it taketh it away, the ashes of burnt wooll doth the same. Also the powder of wilde Calamint or Scordium will con∣sume the proud flesh, and kill the wormes.

TAke Mutton sewet untried iiij lb, the kidnies j lb dj. lb, greene Bay leaves, Wormewood, and Rew ana j lb, red Sage, nd Mercury ana j M, let the hearbs be all reene gathered in the midst of May, and eat in a stone Morter by little at once as you may well, beat them small like greene∣awce, then boyle them in a close Pipkin alfe an houre softly, adde thereto Sallet∣byle j quart: let it boyle one walme, when it is neere cold straine it hard, and put it in Gally pots, and with this anoynt the Gowt old, without heating it, then lay on this Searcloath following, viz. Perosine dj lb, virgin Wax ij ʒ, melt them on the fire in a Piokin, adde thereto oyle of Roses, and red Rose leaves powdred ana ij ʒ, boyle them all one walme, make your Searcloath, lay it on the Griefe three dayes, without remo∣ving.

  • 1 TAke so many Raisins of the Sunne stoned as wil make a plaister for the griefe, pound them like morter, then plai∣ster

TAke the powders of Sanguis draconis, Corrall, Cresses seeds, Alchenet, Acorn cups, Terra sigillata, and Venice Turpen∣tine all powdred ana iij ʒ, confect them up

TAke Capdates twelve, small Nuts five pints, stamp the kernels by themselves, and the shells by themselves, take Brock∣lime, Nepe, Clary, Dazies, Dandelion, and Plantine ana j M. the pith of an Ox back, the pizle and stones of a young Ram, slit them, and make them cleane, and boyle them in five quarts of Alegant, to the con∣sumption of halfe, make it fit for your taste with Sugar, straine it, and drink thereof first and last.

  • 1 TAke clarified honey one pint, Rew, red Sagé ana j M, stamp them, and straine out the juyces, mix them with the honey, stirre them all together, then boyle them one walme, put to them a little pow∣der of Pepper, drink every morning hereof one spoonfull dj. warme, and fast ij houres after, and last at night the like. In the day eat Raisins of the Sunne, and use some ex∣ercise during the Cure, eat twice every day Pottage made of Water-Cresse and Brock∣lime.
  • 2 Sometime use this Almond milk, take Succory, Egrimony, Cardus, French Worm∣wood, and yellow Dock roots ana, boyle them in faire water, then blanch bitter Al∣monds, take their milk and mix all toge∣ther; this Decoction drunk in the morning fasting cureth.

Item, May Butter and Wax ana boyled together with a little Aqua-vitae, dip double cloathes therein, and lay it to the griefe ve∣ry hot, it drawes out the water and swages the swelling.

A speciall unguent for Aches, Sciatica, or any other paine.

TAke Ox gall, Aqua-vitae, Oyle, and the fresh young tops of Rosemary, let them simper on the fire, close covered, till the

MElt together Oyle of Roses, iiij ʒ. Spermaceti j ℥, anoynt the stiffe and lame sinewes therewith warme till it bee well, twice a day, then plaster on the clothes wet in Butter, Wax, and Aqua-vitae.

Impostume in the head to breake and is good for head∣ache and the hearing.

BOyle in a quart of white Wine, Rose∣mary, with the flowers. Rice, Pennie-royal, Winter-savory, and Camomile-flow∣ers, j M. in a pot close stopped, set a fun∣nill on the top of the pot that all the vapor may goe into the eare, be champing in your mouth a Crust all the while, it will

TAke Hollyhocke roots cleane washed, boyle it in water, till it be tender, then powre out the water, then take Fengreek and Linseed bruised, boyle them in the same water till they rope like Bird-lime, then stampe the foresaid roots and put it all well together to a plaster, and lay it to very hot, within nine dayes (God willing) he will be well.

TAke the yolks of Egges j ℥, white Salt, powdred Hens dung liquid like ho∣ny, mix them together, without fire lay the plaster on morning and evening warm, it will digest it, draw it forth, breake it, and heale it.

MOrtifie Quicksilver with fasting spet∣tle in a Vyall, mix it with so much Hogs grease as will make it blackish, there∣with anoynt the palmes of the hands, and the soles of the feet till he be well, at night to bedward: in the morning wash it with this water, viz. take Endive water and vi∣negar ana, Roche Allom, powder of Enula Campane, boyle them together, wash the itch or scurfe therewith; this will destroy it, and kill the fluxion of blood.

TAke earth worms, wash them in 4 or 5 waters very clean, strip thē every time with your fingers all the earth out, then stamp them very small, put stale Ale unto them, and straine them hard out, and drink it with Saffron, it cureth at thrice taking.

straine it, and put it to the fire againe with the white of an egge, and one spoonefull of pure honey, let it boyle againe, then with a spoone scum off the white of an egge, and put in it some Sugarcandy, use to drink ther∣of every morning fasting till you be well.

Liver distempered, a plaister.

TAke oyle of Roses ij ℥, Wax iij ℥, un∣guentum Populion dj. ℥, melt them to∣gether on the fire well mixed, then take it off the fire, put it in a Morter, adde thereto red Sanders steeped in Rosewater j spoone∣full, and Camphire prepared j ʒ, work all these well together with a pestle till they be well mixed, when it is cold make a plai∣ster thereof, & lay it on the right side against the liver, use it till you be well.

Linseed oyle to purifie or prepare for medicine.

TAke fresh Oyster-shells wip'd cleane, and small powdred, put that powder into the oyle, it will draw out all the filth from the oyle to the bottome, then powre out the cleare oyle from the corruption.

Lapis infernalis to make Insition or Issue, and Corrodates an Impostume.

TAke unslak'd Lime, Vine, and Willow ashes, Orgale burn'd, Salt-Peeter, Mer∣cury, Sublimate, Auripigmentum and Cop∣peras ana all fine powdred, then put them into a new red Pipkin, put thereto of the strongest Sope-makers Lie as will cover them, so let it stand covered to infuse for three dayes, then filter it cleare, or draine the lie cleane off, then boyle it in a Pipkin close covered, and powre all the substance on a boord to dry, then frame or cut your stones to the bignesse, fit for your purpose, when you would eat a hole with one of them, make a fit hole in the midst of a plai∣ster right against the place you will open, lay your stone in the hole, and clap another plaister upon it to keepe it on, till you have your issue or hole therein.

DIssolve in your common Decoction for Glysters Benedicta Laxativa ij ʒ, and use it as need requires, then rub the extreame parts with salt-water and Vinegar, or with falt and vinegar strongly, use this every day for three dayes together, after that anoynt the hinder part of the head with this fol∣lowing oyntment.

TAke the juyce of Orpinis mixed with strong vinegar, and many times anoynt the same.

TAke the juyce of Docks with Storax liquid, and gum Armoniack, and Vine∣gar infuse them three dayes, then boyle them and straine them, adde thereto Wax and

TAke oyle of egges what quantity you please, temper them with a good quan∣tity of Letharge of silver bruised, and anoynt the spots therewith.

TAke the fine powder of Cummin seed dj. lb, Figs cut small, boyle them toge∣ther in white Wine till it be thick, then mix therewith foure spoonfulls of Beane meale,

Oyle of Saint Johns Wort, to make of the best.

TAke j lb of the flowers and leaves of St Johns Wort, put them in a broad Vial, with so much white wine as will cover the hearbs, set them in the Sunne ten dayes, then put thereto Sallet oyle ij. lb, let them stand in the Sunne other ten dayes, put thereto of Venice Turpentine iiij ℥, Saffron powdred j ʒ, Nutmegs, Cloves, and elect Myrrhe ana iiij ʒ, Frankincense powdred j ℥, put them in a great bottle close stopped, let them boyl in Balneo till no more vapours will ascend into the head, which wil be some 24 houres,

TAke Sallet oyle one pint in a Viall, put thereto of Saint Johns Wort flowers eaten ij M. of the leaves of red Rose buds, he white ends cut off, the flowers or tops ••••f Rosemary and Camomile flowers ana 〈◊〉〈◊〉 M. set the Viall in the Sunne till the oyle e blood red, put thereto the powder of Al∣kanet iiij ʒ, so it is made.

Oyle of Snayles for any ache to make.

TAke in May black Snayles one pint, put them in a great Ox bladder, with one pint of Aqua-vitae, and the substance of all the Ox gall let run into the bladder to the rest, oyle of Peeter ij ℥, oyle of Spick ij ℥, tye the bladder fast, and put into another great blad∣der, and hang it up fast tyed for twenty

Oyntment to expell winde, paine in the backe stone in the kidnies, Sciatica, or any ache, anoynt the place warme, being first rubbed with a dry cloath.

TAke an Ox gall, slit in the bottome, let it runne out into a Pipkin, adde thereto Neatsfoot oyle j lb, ground Jvie, Rew, Camomile, and Thyme ana j M, pound them in a Morter together, adde thereto Aqua∣vitae j ℥, boyle them all at a soft fire three quarters of an houre, stirre it often in the boyling, then straine it, and so is it made.

Oyle of Egges to make.

TAke the yolks of thirty Eggs, sodden very hard, put away the whites, then put the yolks in a Morter, beat them smal, then put them in a broad Pipkin, cover them with a round Trencher, with a hole in the top, and with a rowling pin thorow

Oyle of Bever-cod, good for paine in sinewes and joynts, Palsie and stifnesse of the neck, it allayes the cold of Agues if you anoynt the back∣bone therewith.

TAke Bever-cod j ℥, Euphorbium iij ʒ, Myrrhe ij ʒ, strong white wine viij ℥, Sallet-oyle xij ℥, let them boyle close overed till the wine be cleane spent, then traine it, and keepe it to your use.

Oyle of Camomile is good to open the pores, and sweatevents, it expells vapours, and is good for paine, in sinewes, joynts, and guts.

TAke sweet Camomile flowers, as much as you will, put it in a preserving glasse, and cover it with sweet oyle, then stop it, and set it in the Sunne foureteene dayes, af∣terward boyle it in a Balneo, then straine out the Camomile, and renew the oyle with

fresh flowers so often til it be erfect in 〈◊〉〈◊〉 and colour, then use it as aforesaid.

Oyle of Dill asswageth all pain, opens the pores consumes wind, and all hard swelling, it take away all shaking of Agues, causeth sleep eases the paine of the head in hot Agues, i you anoynt the back bone therewith.

THis oyle is made of the hearb and fow∣ers, as you make oyle of Camomile, with old oyle.

Oyle of Lillies healeth all paine of cold in brest, reines, bladder, matrix, and guts it di∣gesteth and asswageth the Cough, ripens all Impostumes, drieth all foule sores in the head, diminisheth all sweatings if you mix Saffron therewith.

TAke the white leaves of Lillies, and prepare the oyle as aforesaid.

Oyle of Wax to make.

MElt j lb of Wax small chop'd, mix therewith some ij lb of well burn'd Bricks small powdred, or as much as will

serve to work it up like soft paste, then put it all up in an earthen pot, to distill with a glasse lying along according to Art.

Opiats to procure sleepe in a me∣lancholy mad∣nesse.

FIrst, let the Patients hands and feet bee washed with a Decoction of Dill, Ca∣momile, Lettice, Poppy, Mallowes, and Willow leaves, and after anoynt them with oyle of Poppy-feed by expression, or let him smell to this Opiat following.

Take i ʒ of Mithridate, five graines of Opium, three of Saffron, with one spoone∣full of Malmsie, and two graines of Cam∣phire, put all into a Lemmon Pill emptied of the juyce, and smell thereto often about your houre ordinary to sleepe. If this faile, swallow twenty graines of Moglosse, or take dj. ʒ of Philonium to bed, or some other wholsome Opiat going to bed well corrected.

TAke Cowslip flowers, or roots, red Mints Lavander, & Sothernwood ana j M. stamp them small, and boyle them in strong Ale one pint, put to it Bay salt j ℥ dj. when your liquor is halfe wasted, take out the hearbs and stamp them againe, then put thereto as much good Mustard as halfe your hearbs, thereof make a plaister. If the dis∣ease be in the tongue, lay it to the Nape of the Neck. If in the jawes toward the eares or cheeks, if in the hand to the pulse, and let it lie 12 houres, wash your hands where Sage hath beene.

TAke Rew, Elder leaves, Sinkfoyle, or Tormentill, red Sage, red Bramble leaves, Sorrell, Marigold leaves, and Ange∣lica ana j M. stamp them all in a Morter, then

TAke the leaves and branches of Buck∣wheat, distill it in Balneo, the water thereof is perfect good to stay the spreading of the Canker, although thought uncurable, then with the Magistrall oyle heale it up.

Pox small, the cure.

LEt the Patient sweat first, then give him Mithridate iij graines, or as much Saf∣fron, any of these expells them, then when they are come to a scab, and full ripe, that is, when they looke yellow, then take a piece of fat Bacon, roast it, let it drop in faire wa∣ter; then take the droppings, and wash it againe in three severall waters, and wash it

TAke Guiacum, from the Turners the thinnest chips j ℥, of the barke of Guia∣cum iiij ℥, infuse them foure and twenty houres in a Diet pot with pure water eight quarts, the next day boyle it soft simper∣ing to the consumption of three quarts, drinke off this warme morning and even∣ing a good draught, first straine it from the, wood, then put the pot with the wood to the fire with eight quarts of water againe to boyle, till two quarts be wasted, then straine it ou, let it bee his usuall drink at meales, and all day to drink cold.

Let him every second day drink a great draught of the strongest first, drinke very hot, and sweat two houres after in bed, and dry it with fresh linnen, and change his shirt, use this till all scabs, aches, &c. be gone, for till then he is not sound.

Item, it may bee powdred with Ginger, and mixed with syrup of Roses, Laxative, or Cassia in a reasonable Dosse.

TAke great Onions, roast them tender, make a plaister, and apply it where the paine is very hot, and in thrice dressing it will be well.

A Plaister to asswage heat and inflam∣mation of the liver.

TAke Barly meale mixed with the juyces of Sengreene, and Orpius, and Vine∣gar, mix them with Populion and the cold white oyntment, make a plaister, and lay it to your right side.

Rupture to cure.

TAke the white of an egge beaten like oyle, colour it red with Alkanet, anoynt the back or place where the griefe is by a hot fire, keepe it warme with a Lambs skin, or take Dove-foote or Cranes bill powdred, give halfe a spoonefull thereof in Claret wine or red warme for one and twenty dayes together morning and eve∣ning, fasting two houres after; if it be for old people, adde to it nine Snailes shells powdred and dried, during the cure weare a Trusse, stir it not much, and abstaine from windy meats; or take Polypody of the old Horne beame tree, stamp the roots thereof with the white of an egge, and binde it against the place burst, renewing it every foure and twenty houres for ten or twelve dayes, all that time drink nought but small Beere or Ale, and infuse Cumfry roots and Solomons seale bruised.

Ringworme, Tetter, or creeping sore, the cure.

TAke of the rustiest yellow fat Bacon, cut it thin, fry the grease out of it, then powre it cleane forth from the salt, make cleane the Pan, and put in the cleare grease againe, fry therein* 1.1 Cup-Mosse, till it be dry like coales, then straine out the cleare grease, and mix it with dj, so much Tarre: make an unguent of it, and anoynt the griefe every day, or red Dock roots unwashed and thin sliced, steeped all night in strong Vinegar, and with a clowt bathe it often.

For a Red gum, or Sansfleame face old or new.

TAke the juyces of Sorell, Smallage, and Plantaine ana, honey alike dj, the white of an egge, adde so much Wheat flowre as will compound them to a Salve, mixed all rawe together, and cold without fire, and so apply it, it will cleanse, abate the paine, and heale.

Or Pine nut kernels, bray them in water (make a Salve of it) let it stand till a fat swim thereon, and with the fat anoynt the griefe.

Rhewme, or Tooth-ache, the cure.

TAke Gum Armo. and Mastick ana j ʒ dj, boyle them in Aqua-vitae iiij ℥, Wine Vinegar j ℥, till the third part bee wasted, then straine it, adde thereto honey iiij ʒ, Saf∣fron viij grains powdred, incorporate them together, and with a clowt on the top of a stick, apply it to the griefe.

Or Staves acre, Pepper, Bay salt, and Pel∣litory ana, all pulverized together, sowe them in a linnen cloath as bigge as a Nut, steepe it in wine vinegar one quarter of an houre, then put one of them in your mouth, champ it, and turne it from one side to ano∣ther, spet out the rhewme as it comes.

Or stamp some greene Rew with some Bay salt, apply it to the gums grieved in a linnen cloath, it takes away the paine.

To stay and dry the Rhewme.

TAke a piece of white bread, dry, and hard, then soake it in Malmsie or Mus∣cadine, then strew on it Sugar powdred, Wormwood and Mints powdred, then dry it, and eat it.

TAke so much dulcified Mercury as will make xij spoonfuls of Plantain water as white as milke, dip a feather in it, and dresse the sore; it cures.

M. stampe all these together, and boyle them in j gallon of water, and j pottle of white wine with di. lb, Sugar, till the liquor be half wa∣sted, then straine it and keep it to your use, seringe this water as hot into your sores as may be: if you would have it more clean∣sing, adde thereto Melrosarum; if of greater cleansing and cooling, adde thereto Plan∣tain or Night-shade water wherein is boy∣led a little Allom, this water cleanseth from the deep parts of corrupt and filthy ulcers and humours makes other Medicines work the better.

TAke sallet Oile ij ℥, Camphire iiij ʒ, flowre of Brimstone, and Sugar ana j ℥, grinde all together in a stone morter, and put it in a glasse, in the day time anoint the griefe, as often as you will with oile, wher∣in the golden Sea-coal powdred is boyled, but at night with the former oyle.

Serpigo, or Tetter: another sure one.

TAke the rustiest Bacon you can get, only the fat thereof, fry it in a frying pan till you have all the fat forth, then powre it cleere out, and wipe the pan clean, put in the liquor againe, and fry therin j M. of Fel∣tory, {italias} Cup-mosse, cleane picked and cleansed, fry it in the liquor till it be hard and blacke, then straine it into some vessell, and put to it ij spoonfuls of tarre, and of li∣quid Storax iiij ʒ, stirre them well together till it be cold, anoint the griefe therewith, and lay a linnen cloth dip'd therein on the sore.

TAke j pint of unslaked lime, put it in a pipkin, put thereto of the newest Tanners oose that never had leather in it very warm, then scum it over clean, let it settle till the water be cleere, and therewith wash the sore with wet clothes, foure double, and lay them on.

Sores old and Ʋlcers, an oile to heale and dry.

TAke the crums of stale Rie bread, boyle it in a pip in with so much verjuyce of Crabs, as will boyle it to a thicke poultis, spread it on a cloth, and apply it on the griefe as hot as you can suffer it, if the paine remove, follow it with your medicine, re∣new it hot till you be well.

Stone, a distilled water for it.

TAke Epithimum, Asparagus, Rape, Saxafrage, Parsley, Sea-thistle, Car∣ret, Fenill-roots, Maiden-haire, Gro∣mill, Parsnips, Pellitory of the wall, ana j M. beat your herbs and slice your roots, then beate cherry stones in a morter j M. infuse them all in three quarts of red Cowes milk a whole night, then distill it, drinke with white wine five spoonfuls of this at one time iiij mornings together.

TAke the juyce of Rue, Oile of Rose and Vinegar mixed, with so much C∣ruse to an unguent, therewith anoint th griefe.

Sinews and veines cut to cure.

TAke the great red wormes knit toge∣ther, lay then to the grief; or Magistral oile with Wine and Olibanum, doth the like.

Stitch, a present cure.

SWallow so much of the powder of Ro∣n as will lye on a xij pence in a draught of Sack or Beere, or the powder of a Boares tuske, as much as will lie on iiij d. in warme white wine, doth it, or take Ca∣momill & Dazies with the flowres, ana j M. Cominseed bruised j spoonfull, boyle all these either in Malmsy or Sack, thicken it with leaven bread to a Poultis, lay it very hot to the griefe.

MAke a playster with Caranna or Tac∣cha, Mahacca with oile of Roses, lay it on hot let it lie ij or iij dayes, then take it off, wipe it and apply it again warme.

Sweat to procure.

DRinke a draught of Sack-posset very hot, with iiij Bay-berries husked and powdered therein, cover him warme, and wipe off the sweat.

Squinancie, or any swelling in the throat.

TAke Camomill flowers red Rose leaves, Rosemary tops ana j M. and xij Cloves, fill two linnen bags therewith, heat them betwixt two platters on a chafing dish and coales, with a pint of white wine, apply them to the griefe, hard wrung out one after another as hot as he can suffer it, as one coo∣leth, put on another hot, so continue it for one half houre at every dressing with warm white wine wherein is boyled Honey, red Rose-leaves, and Rosemary tops ana.

TAke Scurvy grasse, Devils Bitt, Water∣cresses and Brock-lime ana j M. Worm∣wood, di. M. stamp and strain them with a quart of white Wine, alayed with a pinte of water, boyle them all together vj walms, adde therto in boyling white Ginger pow∣dred ij ʒ, Enula Camp. j ʒ, a little Saffron powdred, drinke thereof first and last, let him infuse Saxafrage in his drinke at meals, but let him first purge with this following.

Take Senna Alexandrine, iiij ʒ, Epithi∣mum ij ʒ, Raisins of the Sun stoned, j ℥, Fe∣nell seed, Annis and Ginger, ana di. ʒ, infuse them all night in very warme Whay, in the morning wring it out hard, and give it the patient.

Swelling, or Inflammation a Pultis.

TAke Mallowes, Camomill, and Violet leaves, ana j M. boyle them in fresh Hogs grease till they be tender, then lay on the herbs hot for a Pultis, if you adde the crums of Rye-bread, it will cleanse any cor∣rupt Ulcer.

TAke the marrow of an Oxe and new li∣quid Hens dung, ana di. lb. boyle them together, adde thereto powder of Alkanet, strain it out hard, and fricate the grief warm by a fire with a cloth, then anoint it.

Swolne, or scabbed legs to heale.

TAke red dock rootes and Plantain ana, boyle them till they be tender, then bruise them till they be small, boyle them a∣gain in Sheeps suet, and apply it as a Pultis.

To skin a Sore or heale a wound.

TAke oyle of red Roses, infuse therein a little Gum-dragant, and a little pow∣der of Alkanet, let it stand till the Gumme be like a gelly, then strain it and an∣oint therewith.

TAke the juice of Scabius j ℥, Enula cam∣powdred j ʒ, oyle of red Roses j ℥, boyle them in ij ℥ of Vinegar til it be thick, anoint.

Stomack to cleanse.

TAke Centaury, Scabius, Devils Bitt and Egrimony, ana di. M. sprigs of Rose∣mary tops foure, or one race of Ginger grated, three large Mace, boyle them all in a quart of claret Wine sweetned with Ho∣ney, drinke thereof first and last till you be well.

MIx with Hogs grease the juyce of A∣lexander, and a little Auri pigmen∣tum fine powdred, to make it looke yel∣lowish, melt it & put in the powder while it is on the fire, make an oyntment there∣with, and anoint the griefe.

Or take Soute, Oyle-Olive, a little Wine Vinegar, Feltery, Grasse, boyle them toge∣ther till the Feltery be hard and like a coal, then strain it and put thereto one spoonfull of Tarre, stirre it till it be almost cold.

Or take of the worst Salt-butter j lb. the juyce of Celendine, fry them together till it become black, strain it and anoint.

Swelling or pain between the skin and the flesh.

TAke the dung of a Deere, Goate, or Sheepe fine powdred, boyle it in Malmsy and Wine Vinegar, ana, adde thereto some powder of Cominseed, boyle them to the thicknesse of a playster, apply it hot, and dresse it every xxiiij houres.

TAke j quart of white wine, infuse there∣in all night the roots of Parsnips and Carrets thinne sliced, ana j ℥, the next day strain the wine out, and infuse therein the powder of a Hares haire, the powder of a Filberts shell, Licorice cleansed and pow∣dred, ana j spoonfull, Cinnamon, Nutmegs, white Ginger, Ivy-berries, Parsly seed, Ca∣roway, Coriander and Fennill, all fine pow∣dred halfe a spoonfull Sugarcandy pow∣dred ij ℥, shake all these together in the pot with wine, so let it stand, drinke a good draught of it first and last, fast two houres after in morning.

Stitch to cure.

APply to the place grieved crummes of Ry-bread wet with verjuice, as a Pul∣tis very hot, if the paine run on follow it with the hot Pultis till it be gone.

TAke the shell or thinne rindes of Acorns, the hips of the Briar, red Holly-berries and Nutmegs, ana all dryed and powdred, drink hereof first and last in warme white wine, di. spoonfull at once for six dayes or more; it helps.

TAke Hysop, Betony, Rosemary, Violets, Vervine. Saint Johns Wort, Avence, Mouse-eare, Plantain, Feverfew, ana j M. clean washed and stamped in a morter, then put them in a new earthen pot with one gallon of white wine, so let it stand close covered to infuse all night, in the morning boyle it close covered to the consumption of halfe, then straine it through a ha re Sive into a double Viall, then give the sicke to drinke thereof evening hot, and morning cold, a great draught every time, this pow∣der following to be drunk therwith.

Take Gallingale and Nutmegs ana iiij ʒ, Ginger j ℥, Cloves, Cinnamon, Spikenard, E∣nula Campain, ana ij ʒ, Licorice vj ℥, Sugar foure ℥, all fine powdred and searced, then mixe one spoonfull of this powder in one pinte of the liquor afore-said, so morning and evening drinke a great draught as is set downe, Take first the simple liquor vj days and vj nights, and then other foure dayes and nights, take it with the powder, this will cure you if ever you be cured.

Stitch, a remedy in the Spleene, or any part of the body.

CVt a a thin Turffe, having some short giasse thereon, broyle it on a Gridiron, still basting it with vinegar, put it in a dou∣ble cloath, and apply it very hot.

Of the leaves of the smoothest Holly dried and powdred fine, drink thereof so much as wil lye on a six pence in any warme drink.

A Stone that maketh water for any sore to bathe it, or heale any Canker in the face.

TAke Allom and white Copperas ana j ℥, fine powdred, then put them in an ear∣then dish, make the powder hollow, or a hole in the midst of it, powre on a litle white wine to moisten the powders, so let them boyle till they be almost dry, then put to it white and red Lead powdred ana ij ʒ, stirre and mix them wel together till they be dry, then make the hearth very cleane where the fire was, lay the dish and powders with the bottomes upward thereon, then cover the dish with hot embers, so let it he till the

Powders dry, and the dish be cold, then take out the stone made of the powders, and put iiij ʒ thereof into a pint of Plantaine water, or white wine and water, and bathe the sore therewith warme, and lay lint wet therein all day, and all night lay a plaister made with some of this stone powdred, mixt with Honey and Camphire, but first bathe it with the water, so use it till you be well.

Sciatica, an approved medicine.

TAke Malmsie, and Neats-foot oyle ana dj. pint, the youngest tops of Rosemary, the young tops of Bay leaves and Lavander, Spick, ana dj. handfull, all cut small, boyled till the hearbs be tender, then stamped very small, mixed with ten spoonefulls of Aqua∣vitae, then mix it to a Salve and anoynt therewith.

To skin a sore, and make it perfectly whole.

TAke Lapis Calaminaris powdred and searced, mix therewith fresh Butter out of the Churne, and Linseed oyle ana, a little Bole and Ceruse fine powdred, mixt alto∣gether, and apply it.

Sciatica, Gowt, or Ache, an excellent oyle to cure it.

TAke Sallet oyle one pottle, put it in a broad gallon glasse, infuse therein Rose∣mary flowers bruised j lb, let them so stand in the Sunne close covered till Midsommer, then take red Rosebuds j lb, take out the whites, Dill dj lb, St. Johns Wort j lb dj lb, Vervin dj. lb, bruise all these hearbs, then put them into the glasse of oyle, stop it close againe, and sunne it for ten dayes more, then after a shower of raine, gather earth worms one quart, cleanse them in white wine, and wipe them hard in a course cloath of linnen, then take those Wormes, and Lavander, Spick dj. lb, and ten yong Swallowes out of the nest, beat them so small till you can dis∣cerne neither bones, nor feathers, nor guts, then put them also into the glasse of oyle, and stirre them well, and so let it stand one night or two, powre out all this egre∣dients into a Pipkin covered, adde thereto one pint of Malmsie, and dj. pinte of Aqua∣vitae, let it simper softly till the Wine and Aqua-vitae be wasted, then straine it hard, and put it in a double Vyall close stopped,

boyle it in Balneo with some powdred Cloves, and Mastick powdred ana ij ʒ for halfe an houre softly, then sunne it againe ten dayes, then put it up, let it be ten weeks old before you use.

To eleanse and heale a sore with a faire linnen cloath dry.

TAke Plantaine water, put thereto Mer∣cury fine powdred, stir them well toge∣ther, and so let them stand infused all night, then poure the cleare water frō the powder, then wet a clean linnen cloath therein take it out, hang it over the pot with Mercury to draine therein, so let it hang till it be dry, let it come neere no Sunne, but let it dry in the shadow, then cut it fit for the sore, apply it thereto till it be whole, renew it as you doe other plaisters.

A drink for the Stone that cleanseth the back.

GIve him to drink Benedicta laxative in a draught of warme white Wine, then cover him warme in his bed, let him sweat well two houres, this is excellent to cleanse the reines.

TAke the powders of Centaury & Cumin ana j ℥, Fennell, Parsly, and Hyssop, Mint seed all powdred ana iiij ʒ, boyle all these in white wine till the wine be wasted, then bray all in a Morter, and compound it all in a panne with clarified honey, being cleansed with the white of an egge, let the honey bee three parts, and the seeds two parts by waight, then boyle them one or two walines, till it wax somewhat thick, still stirring it, then stirre and mix there∣with the powder of Anniseed, Cinnamon, Galingale, and Liquorice mundified ana j ℥, let them be well Mixed, eat thereof at any time.

Excellent powders for the Stone.

TAke Smallage seeds, Parsly, Lovage, Saxafrage, roots of Philapendula, Cher∣ristones, Gromill, and Broomeseeds, Ashen∣keyes ana j ℥, powder them fine, take of this one spoonfull at once in any thing, fast three houres after.

TAke strong Ale sixe dayes old three gallons, Liquorice and Annis bruised ana iij ℥, Birch leaves burn'd, Pelli∣tory, Water-Cresses, Saxafrage, Gromill, Philapendula, Alexander, Parsly seed, greene Pennyryall, red bramble leaves ana j M, Haw berries dj. pinte, distill all these in a Lim∣beck, and keepe the water, which drink alone, or with the other powder.

A distilled Water to breake the Stone.

TAke wild Mirtle like Butchers broome, Asparagus or Sparage, Eringus, Rapes, Parsly, Mayden-haire, Gromill, wilde Car∣rots, Endive, Fennell roots ana, cut or bray∣ed grosly, infuse them in Wine on a soft fe, this breakes the stone, and causeth urine.

Stitching and drawing wide wounds to∣gether, without touching flesh or skin with a Needle.

TAke Mastick, Dragons blood ana ij ʒ, Frankincense j ʒ, Milldust, and Beane meale ana j ℥ dj. ℥, powder these fine, and temper it with the whites of egges beaten in a dish, and some Rosewater unto a thin Plaister, then spread it on two narrow strong linnen cloathes, full as long as the wound, lay on each side of the wound one of them, neere the lips of the wound, let them there lie till they be full dry, then they will stick fast to the flesh, then with a needle and thread draw them together as neere as you please without any touch or hurt to the wound, which much easeth the Patient.

Stinking mouth to cure.

TAke browne Nuts, boyle them in wine Vinegar, wash the mouth and gums therewith, and after rub them with dry Mints: this cureth.

Or eat Rosemary fasting.

Stinking breath for the stomack.

TAke Cumin fine powdred, boyle it in white Wine, from a pottle to a quart, drink of it first and last hot it cures in fifteene dayes, probatum: drink a pint every day.

Or the roots of Speare inints boyled in honey, drunk to bedward, or m xt with the former medicine.

Or Mountaine Thyme, or wilde Thy me that growes on Molehills, wash it, stamp it small, adde thereto Cumin powdred dj. ℥, Pepper dj ℥ powdred, boyle all together in a pottle of white Wine to a quart, use to drink this alwaies after meat, at afternoone once, and last at night hot as you can abide; this likewise cureth in fifteene dayes.

Or sometime, dip a Lawrell lease in Mu∣stard, and hold it under the tongue, it fur∣thers the cure.

Speech used in sleepe to remedy.

TAke the juyce of Sothernwood mixed with white wine or vinegar and give it him to drink when hee goes to bed, this helps to sleepe quietly.

Or take crops of Rew and Vervine ana, stamp them with vinegar, straine them, and drink it last to bedward ten dayes together, it cureth.

To help Children to speake quickly.

RVb the tongue with salt Gem and Ho∣ney mixed together, it wil profit much.

An excellent Cordiall to comfort the stomack, heart, and braine; quickens memory, and much comforts the spirits.

TAke Calamus Aromaticus, Galingale, Cubes, Spicknard, Cardimonium, graines of Paradise, Myrrhe, Cloves, Ginger, Mace, Nutmegs, Cinnamon, Coriander, Fen∣nell, and Anniseeds ij ʒ of each, Liquorice mundified, Conserve of red Roses, syrup of Violets, Rosemary dried, and red Sage dri∣ed ana iij ʒ, Rosewater, Borage water, Balme water ana j ℥, or for want of the wa∣ters, the hearbs dried and powdred ana j ℥, Honey clarified with the white of an egge j lb, pulverize and searce all those simples that are to be powdred then in a broad gally pot mix all these simples, honey and waters

together to a Conserve, let the Patient take the quantity of two Hazell nuts, in the mor∣ning fasting, two houres after, and last to, bed-ward so much as a Hazell nut.

For foule Scabs.

TAke Scammony and vinegar, and apply it, it helps and drieth mervailously.

For Scabs and Tetters.

TAke the juyce of Lymes, old Oyle, of Nuts and Tarre ana, let them boyle to∣gether, then straine them, and mix there∣with the fine powder of chimney soot, make an oyntment thereof.

Or the juyce of the Dock mixt well, doth the same.

For the Sciatica an unguent, probatum.

BOyle a pint of old Malmsie, with dj. lb of Butter out of the Churne unsalted, let them boyle till it come to a Salve, there∣with anoynt the griefe warme, use this for any other paine.

Tetter, the cure.

TAke red Rose leaves, Sage, Camomile, and Rosemary ana j M. Pomgranat Pils, and Allom ana iiij ʒ, boyle all these in two quarts of white wine, to the consumption of a third part, bathe the sore therewith, and apply on it a plaister of Diapalmae.

Or black Sope, Ginger, and Pepper, make an unguent of it, and use it, it cures.

Tympanit or Dropsie, the cure.

TAke five pints of Rhennish or white wine, and three porrengers full of the ashes of burn'd Broome, Cinnamon iij ʒ, in∣fuse them all night together, next morning runne it thorow a jelly bagge so often till it be cleare, adde thereto so much Sugar as will fit your taste, bottle it up close, let it stand one day, then drink it first and last, and one houre before meales, and after walke till you bee warme, at each time take a good draught cold, eate neither Milke, Broath, nor spoone meat, salt meats, nor

fried, drink but little at meales, no wine at all, except the stomack be weake.

Thornes with splinters, and to draw them out.

TAke a peece of a Fox tongue, steeped all night in vinegar, bind it fast on for forty houres without removing, it will draw it out.

Or take Ryce meale, Hazell nuts, black Sope, Tarre, Goose dung, and Hens dung, mix them, and boyle them in milk to a poul∣tis, plaister it fast on.

Or stamp the roots of a Reed, and lay it to the griefe.

Or stamp Bettony, and use it.

Or take Egrimony, the grease of a Hare and Rye meale mixt, and apply it.

Or take honey, the gall of a beast, and chalk, and use it.

Tooth-ache with rhewme, the cure

BVrne Ashen-keyes to ashes, and put them in a fine linnen cloath, bound hard together, then dip it in wine vinegar, and

lay it in the hole behind the eare, this raiseth a blister, and easeth.

Or take Ginger and Liquorice mundifi∣ed and Powdred ana iiij ʒ, salt Peeter j ℥ fine powdred and mixed, then with a quill blow it up in the contrary nostrill where the paine is; this works hard, but helps.

Tooth-ache, stinking breath, and loose teeth to cure.

DIp a linnen cloath in vinegar of Squils, rub your teeth and gums therewith.

Tooth-ache of rhewme.

TAke English honey, melt it in a dish, then shred off the inner bark of a white Bullas tree, Pepper, and white Ginger, as much as will make two little Pills, so bigge as a black Cherry, wrap each of them in a thin linnen cloath, dip them in a dish of hot honey, hold them in your mouth one after another, when one cooleth take another, doe this till the paine be gone.

Ptysick or any disease of the lungs.

TAke the roots of Parsly, Fennell, and Succory ana j M pithed, the fresh tops of Rosemary and Bettony ana j M, Anniseed bruised, Liquorice mundified and thin sli∣ced ana j ℥ dj. ℥, Enula Campaine roots powdred iiij ℥, Raisins of the Sunne stoned iiij ℥, English Saffron ℈ j, boyle all these in three quarts of running water one houre, then straine out the liquor, and put it to fire againe, with three spoonefulls of honey, when it boyles seum it, let it coole, and bottle it up for your use, drink morning and evening eight spoonefulls thereof warme, sometimes tost a Figge, and eat it dipt in the powder of Bettony.

Of this make a syrup, which eat a spoon∣full often in the day and night.

Turne sole to make.

DIp linnen cloathes in Allom water, let them dry againe, then take Elder ber∣ries, and Black-berries, wring their juyces out, then dip the Allom cloathes therein,

For the Tooth-ache, a medicine made by Doctor Butler of Cambridge.

TAke the rind of Caner roots, of the black berry bramble, the flowers of Poingra∣nates called Balaustia ana ij ʒ, Pellitory of Spain, white Henbane seed, the rind of Man∣drake and Roche Allom ana ij ʒ dj. ʒ, Spurge of the garden j M, boyle all these together in very hard white wine, this is rough in taste, therewith gargarize and wash the mouth often.

A Triacle, or rather a pretty Mithridate.

TAke Gentian, Aristolochia rotunda, Bay berries husked elect, Myrrhe and Jvory ana j ℥, Ginger, Cinnamon, red Roses, Opi∣um, Spicknard Castor Opoponax, Frankin∣cense, Fennell seeds, Parsly, Caroway, Wormewood, Calamus aromaticus, Enula Campaine, Scordium, or water German∣der, ana ij ʒ, Storax, Hartswort, Sothern∣wood, Turpentine wash'd in Rose water

ana vj ʒ, powder all that are to bee pow∣dred, and searce them fine, incorporate them with honey clarified quod sufficit: this is ex∣cellent for any strong disease, or other, it ex∣pells poyson from the heart of any kinde; it expells winde and venemous vapours, it breakes the Stone, it giveth quiet rest and sleepe, it takes away all pain, it causeth urine, and cures all inward griefes and sicknesle, the Dosse is j ʒ at a time.

A stomack drink that cures many diseases, if it be made and drunk in May, they are safe all the yeare after.

TAke Scabius, Mugwort, Smallage, Di∣vels bit, ground Jvy, Wormewood, Fumitory, Fetherfew, Spicknell ana ij M. boyle them long in Whay made in May, when they be well boyled, in the last walm put in it the whites of six egges, some ho∣ney clarified, a little Saffron, the powder of twelve Cloves, then straine it, and drink of it first and last.

TAke the roots of Walwort, scrape the in∣most rinde, stampe the middest, and tem∣per with Boares grease and plaster it on.

STampe j M. of Dazie roots tempered with yolkes of egges and wheat flowre, and make a playster thereof, and apply it, dresse it twice a day.

For Tetters or any creeping eating Sores.

TAke honey clarified, mix therewith of Daffadill and the roots thereof, anoint the griefe, or take white Sope j ʒ Orpment ij ʒ, make an unguent therewith, but first wash the place with warme water before you anoint it.

Or mix the powder of Salt Armoniack, with Sope anoint and be whole, probatum.

Vein broken or spitting bloud.

TAke Mouse-dung powdred as much as will lie on a groat, put it in a little draught of the juice of Plantaine warme, with a little Sugar, drinke thereof first and last till it be well.

Vein broken.

TAke Wormwood, Hemlock, Housleeke, ana dj. M. Hony, & Oyle of Roses ana j ℥, Bole, and sanguis Draconis ana ij ℥, beate them together, and playster it to the griefe.

Ʋlcers, the cure.

TAke Roch Allom, powder it and calcine it till the pot be red hot, and the Allom pure white, then adde thereto Wine Vine∣gar so much as will cover it, then vapour away the Vinegar till the Allom be blacke, then calcine it againe till it be as white as Snow; then mixe it with Honey of Roses, make a playster thereof, and apply it.

STrew thin over the Ulcer calcined vitri∣all, then lay on a playster of flos unguen∣torum.

Vomit easie with intermission.

TAke the syrrop of Mints and Violets, ana foure ℥, boyle them to the thicknesse of Honey, then draw away the fire then mixe them with the seeds of Tompions, Raddish and Nettles dryed and powdred, and Rose water ana foure ʒ, the roots of Asarabacca, dryed in the shadow, pure chalke powdred, Cinnamon and Fe••••ilseed, all powdred, ana j ℥, confect them all together into an E∣lectuary, the Dose is iij ʒ, either in Barley Water, Whay, or Milk, or honied water.

TAke Mints, Shepherds Purse, Plantaine, Knot-grasse and Cumfry, ana j M. small chopped, boyle them in a quart of red or claret Wine, drinke of this Wine, and pla∣ster

Ʋnguent mundifying.

TAke Rosin viij ℥, Colophony foure ℥, Wax j lb. Oyle one lb, Opoponax j ℥, di. ℥, Verdigrease j ℥, melt the Wax and Rosin together, then strew on the Gummes being dissolved in Vinegar, then boyle it a little on a soft fire, take it off, and stirre in your Verdigrease last in fine powder by little and little, so playster it.

Ʋnguentum Neopolitanum, to cure the French Pox.

TAke Oyle of Spick. Oyle of Tartar, Oyle of Bay, Peterolium, and Swines grease, ana j ℥, Frankincense, 4 ℥, Euforbiū j ʒ, di. ʒ, ung. dialtheae, and Agrippa, ana j ℥ Quick∣silver mortified with fasting spittle, iij ℥, mixe them well and compound an Oynt∣ment thereof, anoint therewith but hands and armes to the elbowes, legs and feet to the knees.

Ʋnguent to heale a green wound at first dressing.

TAke Aloes, Siccatrine fine powdred, the powder of Perosine ana, Mix and grinde them with the white of an Egge, lay it on with a Spledget of Lint.

Ʋnguent for Ladies chop'd, or sore Lips.

TAke Butter out of the Churne, melt it with so much Waxe, Rose-water, and fine scraped Sugar, compound them toge∣ther to an Oyntment, and anoint therewith upon the hands.

Ʋnguent for deep thrusts or Wounds.

TAke Hogs grease di. lb. the juyce of Plan∣tain, Wormwood, Marigold and Dazies, put to your grease so much Sallet Oyle as grease, melt and mixe them well together on the fire, put therein so much fine searced powder of Alkanet as covers the unguent red, this cureth without Tent, and keepe it open.

Vnguent Incarnative and healing.

TAke English Honey and Turpentine, melt them on the fire, and scumme them with a feather, then take it from the fire, and stirre it, and put to it the juyces of Dasies and Plantain ana, the yolkes of three eggs, stirre them well and mixe them to an Un∣guent.

Vnguent to heale the Hemrods, and breake them.

TAke the finest Sope, bray therewith Gar∣den Snails without shels, and the fine searced powder of burnt Muscle-shels, all mixed and brayed together, anoint there∣with, and in three dressings be whole, and then lay on a desiccative powder.

Vnguentum defensivum & repercussivum.

TAke Oyle of Roses foure ℥, Bole two ℥, Terra sigillata one ℥, Vinegar one ℥, Cam∣phire di. ʒ, Night-shade, and Sengreen, ana j M. pound, the herbs, and strain the juyces out, mix altogether cold, fiat unguentum.

Vnguentum digestive, which brings a wound to faire matter.

TAke Honey and fresh Butter ana, incor∣porate them well together, with the flowre of Fengreeke, Linseed, and Wheat, melt them and mixe them on the fire toge∣ther, make it so.

Vnguent to mundifie.

TAke Rosin, Wax, and Pitch ana iii ʒ, Deeres Suet j ʒ, melt them together on a soft fire, strain them purely with∣out pressing, then set it on the fire, and put there to Verdigrease, vj ʒ. Allom fine pow∣dred, iiij ʒ, mix them well with vj. great spoonfuls of Sallet Oyle, and so it is done.

Vnguent to cleanse and heale.

TAke white Copperas fine powdred foure ʒ, Allom fine powdred, and Verdigrease ana iij ʒ, Honey fine powdred, and Butter ana ij ℥, Oyle of Roses ij ℥, boyle all together to a liquid un∣guent, then mix thereto Turpentine ij ʒ, lay it on with Spledgets.

Vnguent to skin any wound.

TAke Lapis Calaminaris powdred and searced j ʒ, fresh Butter, Oyle of Lin∣seed ana ij ℥, Bole and Ceruse ana iiij ʒ, powdred and searced, mix them all in a morter to an unguent, anoint therewith and lay Spledgets wet therein on it.

Vnguent to force one to pisse in any sicknesse.

INfuse and mix ten drops of Oyle of Iu∣niper in ij ℥ of Parsley water, drinke it fasting bloud-warm, use it till you be well, which will be at one or two takings.

Wounds and small Cuts.

TAke powder of Storax, mixe it with Oyle of Hypericon and Alkanet, it cures quickly.

Wounds green, a Balsome to heale quickly.

TAke the oldest white Wine j pinte, Oyle three pintes, Hypericon, Clownes Al∣heale, and red Rose buds, ana j M. fresh and small shread, earthen wormes clensed di. lb. boyle all these in the Oyle and Wine, til the Oyle and Wine be consumed; then strain it hard forth, and put it to fire againe, digest therein liquid Storax j ℥, and Venice Tur∣pentine j lb. Wax cut in pieces ij ℥, mixe them well together when it is cold, put it in Vialls, and Sun it ten dayes, this is a good tenting Salve.

Wounds green, a Salve to cure.

TAke the Oyle of Linseed pinte one, infuse therein Adders tongue and sweet Maud∣lin small chop'd or cut all night, so much as the Oyle will cover, the next day boyle it close covered, till the herbs have lost their colour, then straine it, put the Oyle to fire againe, put thereto Wax and Rosin, cut in small pieces ana ij ℥ till it be well melted, then mixe and stirre therein Venice Turpen∣tine

ij ℥ being well mixed, take it from fire put it up to your use.

Wounds or Sores, a good Lotion.

TAke white Wine one pinte, infuse therein so much calcined Vitriall as will make it bloud red, then put thereto the powder of calcined Allom, so much as a Walnut.

Wenne to cure.

RUb the Wen on a dead body, a man on a woman, and a woman the contrary, prick the Wen with a Needle in the dead body to be buried with him.

Wormes to kill and cure.

TAke Cockle, and with the flowre thereof make a playster, temper it with the juyce of Wormwood, lay it the Navell.

Or take the powders of Betony, Savine, Wormwood, and Century, ana mixed, eat a little thereof in broaths, or drinke it in drinke.

Winde Collick to cure.

TAke the powder of Setwell Roots, and put it in white Wine, it is very good.

Winde with pain and swelling in the Stomack.

TAke Avenice, Licorice & Annis, clean∣sed and bruised, Gallingale and Hyssop, with the powder of Mace, and a little Gen∣tian, boyle all these in white Wine, the Do∣se is in discretion, straine it and drinke it warme.

Or oyle of Roses, Wax, powders of Ma∣stick and Mace melted together, and apply it in a playster to the Stomack.

Wilde fire in the flesh to cure.

TAke the dregs or lees of red or Claret Wine, or White, and the dregs of Vine∣gar, the whites and yolks of Eggs, bray all these together and apply it.

Water to dry and heale a Sore, and to dry a humour.

TAke white Copperas calcined and pow∣dred fine, seeth it in faire running water, then let it stand and settle, take none but the cleerest thereof, or strain it purely, and so use it.

Womans milke hard in Brests to cure.

TAke Mints, Walwort and Vervine ana, Hogsgrease, stamp them together, and as a Poultis apply it.

Warts or Wens to cure.

TAke j lb. of the first tap of Sopemakers Lye, put it in a pot and mixe there with so much quick Lyme as will make it thick. then put it in a bag, hang it up with a Bason under it, and let the water drayn into the Bason, then put a drop of that water on the top of the Wart or Wen, and let it dry in three or foure times till it look white, then it will go away.

TAke water and white Wine ana j quart, Woodbine leaves and flowres, ana ij M. Sage, Rosemary and Water-cresses small chopt and well boyled together, halfe an houre close covered, then put therein Al∣lom iiij ʒ powdred, and Honey two small spoonfuls, then boyle them three walmes, strain it and keep it to use.

Womans Paps swolne, or hard to cure.

TAke the juyce of Hearb Bener, bathe the hard Brest therewith, and wet a double cloth therein and lay it thereon, bathe it and wet the cloth again, so use it till you be well.
