soleua dir, che le leggi della patria consisteuano in questo principalmente, che i principi sapessero comandare, & i priuati vbbidire; & che coloro che à i comandamenti vbbidiscono, pensino, che l'ubbidir dia lor gloria, & honore, & che quei, ch' hanno fatto contra l'Imperio sieno ripresi, & ga∣stigati. Et Tiberio imperatore per altri rispetti non troppo vtile, nè lodeuole auuertiva i suoi luoghi tenenti delle prouincie dell'Imperio, che' si con∣tentassero d'esser pastori; nè volessero esser bar∣bieri de i popoli raccommandati loro.
