Exposition vpon the 51. Psalme; First preached, and now published for the bene∣fitof Gods Church. -
Psalme 51.THE TEXT. To him that excelleth, a Psalme ofDauid, when the ProphetNa∣than came vnto him, after hee had gone in toBershaba. -
Psalme 51.VERSE 1. Haue mercy on me O God, according to thy louing kindnes, according to the multitude of thy compassi∣ons, put away mine iniquities. -
VERSE. 2. 2. Wash mee throughly from my wickednesse, and cleanse me from my sinnes. -
VERSE. 3. 3. For I acknowledge mine ini∣quities, and my sinne is e∣uer before mine eyes. -
VERSE. 4. 4 Against thee▪ against thee on∣lie haue I sinned, and done thiseuill in thy sight, That thou mayest be iust when thou spea∣kest, and pure when thou iud∣gest. -
VERSE. 5. 5. Beholde, I was borne in ini∣quitie, and in sinne hath my mother conceiued me. -
VERSE. 6. 6. Beholde, thou louest trueth in the inward affections, there∣forehast thou thou taught me wisedome in the secret of my heart. -
VERSE. 7. 7. Purge mee with hissope, and I shall be cleane: wash me, and I shall be whiter then snow. -
VERSE. 8. 8 Make mee to heare of ioy and gladnesse, that the bones which thou hast broken may reioyce. -
VERSE. 9. 9 Hide thy face from my sinnes, and blot out all mine iniquities. -
VERSE. 10: 10. Create in me a cleane heart, O GOD, and renew a right spirit within me. -
VERSE. 11. 11. Cast me not from thy presence, O Lord, and take not thy holy Spirit from me. -
VERSE. 12.13. 12. Restore me to the ioy of thy sal∣uation, and stablish mee with thy free Spirit.13. Then shall I teach thy wayes vnto the wicked, and the sinners shal be conuerted vnto thee. -
VERSE 13. 13 Then shall I teach thy wayes vnto the wicked, and sinners shalbe conuerted vnto thee. -
VERSE. 14. 14 Deliuer me from bloud ô God, the God of my saluation, and my tongue shall sing ioyfully of thy righteousnesse. -
VERSE. 15. 15. Open thou my Lippes, O Lord, and my Mouth shall shew forth thy praise. -
VERSE. 16. 16 For thou desirest no sacrifice else would I give it thee, &c. -
VERSE. 17. 17. The Sacrifices of God are a contrite spirit: a contrite and broken heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. -
VERSE 18.19. 18 Bee fauourable vnto Zyon for thy good pleasure; Build vp the wals of Ierusalem.19 Then shalt thou accept the sa∣crifice of righteousnesse, euen the burnt-offering and obla∣tion, then shall they offer calues vpon thine Altar. -
