¶ The plage of frogges. Moses prayeth for Pha∣rao. The plage of flyes.

[ A] THe Lorde spake vnto Moses: Go vnto Pharao, and tell hym, thus sayth the Lorde:* 1.1 Let my people go, that they maye serue me. If thou wilt not let them go, beholde, I wyll smyte all thy lande with frog∣ges. And the ryuer shall scrale with frogges, and they shal come vp, & go into thyne housse and into thy chaumbre, where thou slepeste, and vppon thy bedde, and into the housses of thy seruauntes, and vpon thy people, and in∣to thyne ouens, and vpon thy vytayles, whi∣che thou haste in store. And the frogges shall come vppon the, and on thy people, and vpon all thy seruauntes.
[ B] And the Lorde spake vnto Moses, saye vn∣to Aaron: stretche forthe thyne hande with thy rodde ouer the streames, ryuers and pon∣des. And brynge vp frogges vpon the lande of Egypte. And Aaron stretched his hande ouer the water of Egypte,* 1.2 and the frogges came vp, and couered the lande of Egypte. And the sorcerers dyd lykewyse with their sorcery, and the frogges came vp, vppon the lande of E∣gypte.
[ C] Then Pharao called for Moses, and Aa∣ron, and sayde: Praye ye vnto the Lorde that he maye take awaye the frogges from me and frome my people, and I wyll let the people go, that they may do sacrifice vnto the Lord. And Moses sayde vnto Pharao: Appoynte thou the tyme vnto me, when I shall pray for the / and thy seruauntes, and thy people, to dryue awaye the frogges frome the, and thy housse, so that they shall remayne but in the ryuer onely. And he sayde to morowe. And he sayd: euen as thou hast sayd that thou mayst knowe that there is none lyke vnto the Lord our God. And the frogges shall departe from the, and frome thyne houses, and frome thy seruauntes, and frome thy people, and shall remayne in the ryuer onely.
[ D] And Moses and Aaron went out from Pha¦rao, and Moses cryed vnto the Lorde vppon the apoyntment of frogges, whiche he hadde made vnto Pharao. And the Lorde dyd accor∣dynge to the sayenge of Moses. And the frog∣ges dyed out of the housses, courtes & feldes. And they gathered them togither vpō heapes so that the lande stanke of them.
But when Pharao sawe that he had reste gyuen hym, he hardened his hert, and herke∣ned not vnto them, as the Lorde hadde sayde. And the Lorde sayde vnto Moses: saye vnto Aaron, stretche out thy rodde, and smyte the duste of the lande, that it maye turne to lyfe / in all the lande of Egypte. And they dyd so. And Aaron stretched oute his hande, with his rodde, and smote the dust of the earth,* 1.3 and it turned to lyse, both in man and beast, so that all the duste of the lande, turned to lyse, tho∣rowe out all the lande of Egypte.
And the enchaunters assayde lykwyse with [ E] their enchauntementes, to brynge forth lyse, but they coulde not. And the lyse were bothe vpon man and beast. Then sayde the enchaū∣ters vnto Pharao: It is the fynger of God. Neuerthelater Pharaos hert was hardened, and he regarded them not, as the Lorde had sayde.
And the Lorde sayde vnto Moses: ryse vp early in the mornyng, and stonde before Pha∣rao, for he will come vnto the water: and say vnto hym, Thus sayth the Lorde: let my peo∣ple go, that they may serue me. If thou wylt not let my people go, beholde, I will sende al maner flyes, bothe vpon the, thy seruauntes, and thy people, and into thy housses. And the housses of the Egyptians shalbe full of flyes, and the grounde wheron they are. But I wil separate the same daye, the lande of Gosan where my people are, so that there shall no flyes be there: that thou mayste knowe, that I am the Lorde vppon the earth. And I will put a dyuisyō, betwene my people and thyne. And euen to morow shal this miracle be done.
And the Lorde dyd accordyngly: and there [ F] came noysome flyes into the housse of Pharao and into his seruauntes houses,* 1.4 and into all the lande of Egypte: so that the lande was marred with flyes. Then Pharao sent for Moses and Aaron, and sayde: Go and do sa∣crifice vnto your God in the lande. And Mo∣ses answered: it is not mete so to do. For we shulde so offer vnto the Lorde our God, that whiche is an abhominacyon vnto the Egyp∣tians: beholde, shall we sacrifice that whiche is an abominacion vnto the Egyptiās before their eyes, & shall they not stone vs? we wyll therfore go thre dayes iourney, into the wyl∣dernesse, and sacrifice vnto the Lorde our God as he hath commaunded vs.
And Pharao sayde: I will let you go, that [ G] ye maye sacrifice vnto the Lorde your God in the wildernes: onely go not farre away, and se that ye praye for me. And Moses sayde: be∣holde, I wyll goo oute frome the, and praye vnto the Lorde, and the flyes shall departe frome Pharao, and frome his seruauntes and frome his people, to morowe. But let Pha∣rao frome henceforth desceaue no moare, that he will not let the people go to sacrifice vnto the Lorde.
And Moses went oute frome Pharao, and prayed vnto the Lorde. And the Lorde dyd as Moses had sayd, and toke away the flyes frome Pharao, and from his seruauntes, and frome his people, so that there remayned not one. But for all that, Pharao hardened his herte euen then also, and wolde not let the people go.
