PAule Apostle of Iesu [ A] Christ, by the wyll of God.

To the sayntes, which are at Ephesus, and to them whi¦che byleue on Iesu Christ.

Grace with you,* 1.1 and peax from God our father, and from the Lorde Ie∣su Chryste. Blessed be God the father of oure Lorde Iesu Christ, which hath blessed vs with all maner of spirituall blessynges in heuenly thynges by Chryst, accordynge as he had cho∣sen vs in hym, afore the foundacyon of the worlde was layde, that we sholde be sayntes, and without blame before him, thorowe loue, and ordeyned vs before thorow Iesus Christ, to be heyres vnto him selfe, accordynge to the [ B] pleasure of his wyll to the prayse of the glory of his grace wherwith he hath made vs accep¦ted in the beloued.* 1.2

By whome we haue redempcion, thorowe his bloude, euen the forgyuenes of synnes, ac∣cordynge to the ryches of his grace, whiche he shed in vs abundantly in al wysdom, and pru∣dence. And hath opened vnto vs theφ 1.3 mistery of his wyll, accordynge to his pleasure, & pur∣posed the same in him self, to haue it declared when the tyme were full come, that all thin∣ges, bothe which are in heuen, and also which are in earthe, sholde be gathered togyther, in Chryste: that is to saye, in hym in whome we are made heyres, and were therto predestinate accordynge to the purpose of him which wor∣keth al thinges after the purpose of his owne wyll: that we whiche afore bileued in Christ sholde be vnto the prayse of his glory.

In whome also ye (after that ye herde the [ C] worde of truthe, I meane the gospell of your saluaciō, wherin ye byleued) were sealed with the holy spiryte of promes, which is the ernest of oure inheritaunce, to redeme the purcha∣sed possession, and that vnto the prayse of his glorye. [ D]

Wherfore I (after that I herde of the faith which ye haue in the Lorde Iesu, and loue vn∣to all the sayntes) cease not to gyue thankes for you, makynge mencion of you in my pray∣ers, that the God of our Lorde Iesus Chryste and the father of glorye myghte gyue you the spiryte of wysdome, and open to you the knowlege of him selfe, and lighten the eyes of your myndes, that ye might know what that hope is, wherunto he hath called you. & what the ryches of his glorious inheritaūce is vpon the sayntes, and what is the excedynge great∣nes of his power towardes vs whichφ 1.4 byleue according to the workyng of that his mighty

power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raysed him frome the deed, and set him on his right hande in heuēly thinges, aboue al rule, power, and myght, and dominacion, & aboue all names that are named, not in this world onely, but also in the worlde to come: & hath put all thinges vnder his fete, and hath made him aboue all thinges, the heed of the congre¦gacion which is his body & the fulnes of him that fylleth all in all thinges.
